After having a discussion with an alphabet agency guy about foreign intelligence networks, I no longer worry about such things.

Does that mean "they're all clownshoes" or "we're all clownshoes"?

Basically, they know essentially everything that is remotely important, and pretty much everything that isn't (and long before us little people do) Our intelligence networks are utterly terrifying once you delve into them, and our enemies are close to that level.

After what I've learned, I'm far more in favor of the free dissemination of knowledge to make sure things they already know gets to the people on our side who need to know. That doesn't mean upload classified information on definitelynotchinahosting.com, but if you know it and it's not going to send you to the buttrape pen for sharing, please do so.

ETA: For those interested, he told me that Russia still holds the overall edge in intelligence but China is close. But China is incredible at HUMINT (which should be obvious to just about anyone these days).

ETA2: As for infiltration, they're a mess, both with foreign and domestic. And that out of all of them the NSA was the most pro-American and pro-liberty. So take from that what you will.

I think it means we're beyond effed

Nothing surprises me.

We had Soviet spies at the height of the Manhattan Project that had infiltrated Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, and others.

MACV SOG was so compromised that the Son Tay raiders were specifically recruited from SF that weren't currently in SOG

Ali Mohamed , who trained pre 9/11 Al Qaeda taught at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center

Interesting stuff. And yeah I agree, we're all effed. There's a Game of Thrones level of intrigue playing out behind the scenes right now and we're all caught in the middle of it.

Honestly, there's little intrigue needed.  Fieldcraft has been a thing for centuries.  While I've seen trainers try to keep their personal tricks limited to their circle its not like nation states can't come up with recon type skills on their own.

Recce'ing is to 2022 what zombie hunting was to 2006.

Zombies were about being prepared for essentially anything without a focus on a specific threat.

Decades later, the enemies we'll be facing are becoming much clearer hence more specific training trends.

Honestly I think the " woods" side of training has always and still put to the side ....and folks gravitate towards the " tactical " side of training aka shooting.
Both are needed ....but one imho takes more effort.

I'm not anybody. But I'd rather have 3 dudes with me that have basic team skills/shooting experience  and tons of time under a pack than the latter.
I see it as hunter vs hunted and vice versa
Know how to behave as both....

Not knocking it, good to know, but to me it screams back country hunting trip. Nothing real world, for a civilian with no military back up. BUT I am sure you guys know far more than me, enlighten me. Now having said that, the info provided, I can see that being a gold mine to anyone that is in opposition to our military, and I am a little shocked it's out there. Mixed feelings on that one. I like knowing how things work, and capabilities, but I don't like our enemies knowing them.

I'm relatively sure the concept of having dry socks and packing your bag to reach important gear easily is not a state secret.

I hate camping like that, but it was when my boy was available. August in Red River Gorge 95f and 95 humidity. But, yeah. I'm sure FL is a whole nuther ball of wax. I just don't do that. I'll have fun camping in 0*f, no problemo.

I was thankful that I overkilled my water collection bag. The boy had a great system with his CNOC 2q bag and Sawyer but it's small. I had some 1.5gal collection bag and sawyer. The open end bags that are easy to collect in, along with Smart Water bottles and the Sawyer are about the slickest way to filter I've found, and I've tried several. Best tasting, so far, has been the Sweetwater with activated charcoal. Discontinued, unfortunately.  Probably went through about 6-8 qts/day, maybe more and it weren't enough.

I could have gone lighter but was trying out some gear. Hell, the water rig, some jerky and nuts, and a sleeping pad and bug net would have done me. You just don't need anything but water and some electrolytes in those conditions. Some calories to hump the hills. If I get wet....good.

I forgot a lot of guys were looking for this in the Precision Rifle - Fieldcraft forum: Covert Rural Surveillance

Lots of good content so snag it while you can.

Pretty basic information given as a way to hopefully entice people to learn more.

Garand Thumb is great in getting people interested in the 2A life style. He's an excellent ambassador.  I think though even he knows that a short YouTube video isn't going to convey very much, but what he did provide was well delivered and hopefully sparks some interest among his viewers.

That man has probably done more to grow the 2A community than the NRA has with about a micro fraction of their budget.

I asked in that thread and I'll ask here too.  Did you actually download it?  Those sites tend to be pretty sketchy.

ETA - if you did download it, you want to email me the pdf so I don't have to deal with the site?

Opened in browser fine for me and antivirus didn't chirp when PDF was downloaded. It's an old POS laptop I use for these sketchy places though so I'm not too concerned. I'm on a different device at work now so it'll be a while before I can get it to you.
