We use a stainless steel Solo Stove. They're spendy, but worth it.
ETA: Corrected 'speedy' to 'spendy', but they actually are speedy, too. |

We got the Bonfire, because it was the biggest available at the time. I'm glad the really big one wasn't available, because we actually like taking the Bonfire camping. It's come in handy in spots with no fire ring, and really handy on windy days. |

I have something like 120 retaining wall blocks in a three course circle
you did say pit |

The solo says nearly smokeless. This is a plus. The wife always complains about the smoke smell you get on you and in your clothes from a night outside.

View Quote I would agree with that as long as you've got a good fire going and your wood is dry. If your fire is going well enough that you can actually see flames coming out of the top holes you'll have very little smoke. Lots of our wood was left out in the rain all winter so it doesn't burn very well. The solo can't overcome that and isn't exactly smokeless right now. |
|
I just sat outside for 4.5 hours next to my Solo Stove, sipping Jameson Cold Brew coffee infused whisky. Great night, no smoke in my eyes.

Bought the Solo Stove Ranger for Mrs.45ProCarry for christmas. We love it. Came with a nice carry bag, so we can take it camping if we wanted to. If you can wait, Solo Stove has a sale around Thanksgiving every year for half off.. Get on their mailing list.

Solo stove is ok but has limitations. You have to use smaller pieces of wood. Pinecones are great. If you fill it up enough it is smokeless.
Most of heat goes up, not out. Not going to keep you warm. Also, not as much light since the fire had to be inside the stove to keep it smokeless. I have the bonfire size so I don't know what the bigger one performs. |

Friend gave me some used rock crusher cone. Weighs about 700 lbs. warms up everything when it gets hot.
Might line the edge with pavers or rocks so kids aren’t tempted to go grab it |

I have a chiminea in the back. We haven't used it in a couple years but we got a lot of use out of it over the years prior. Made for a great ending to some of the family gatherings we used to hold. My sons would also use it during their teen years to have friends over, sit around outside and do teen things. I took out the last of my fruit trees (apple and pear) a couple years ago and saved the better parts and cut them to length. The've been drying out since in a rack under the deck stairs. I always liked sitting out there in the early autumn. Times move on but the memories are still there.

Shop vac cleans it right out though |

Quoted: I'm intrigued. Is that the bonfire model? If so, what size wood do you have to find? Regular length ok? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: I'm intrigued. Is that the bonfire model? If so, what size wood do you have to find? Regular length ok? 16"-18" splits are fine. It burns really hot. I won't have any other fire pit. I have had mine for 4 summers. the only issue I have with it is cleaning it out. If it gets rained on you have to hose it out. They sell a cover but I just store mine upside down and it is fine. |

Solo Stove. Only thing that kinda sucks is you have to be right over it if you want to warm up at all. It doesn’t radiate heat out the side.

There’s a plus to that as well. That should make it more useful in the warmer months when everyone wants the ambience of a fire and its 80 degrees out. |

This is one my dad and I built at our cabin when I was a teenager. 30 years later it is still holding up.

Time to roast a pig then! |

I just sprung for the bonfire from solo. Just couldn’t drop the coin on the Yukon. Damn those are expensive.
