You ain't  kidding!

Just got word from my daughter in California that the Shelly fire is a mile from their house they just bought last month.
They went back to get the dogs and there are dozers on their property cutting fire lanes.

Now this wind and water don't seem like that big a deal to me. And I'm 10 miles west 9f center from the projected path.

Yes.
Just noticed after I updated my storm map hurricane path, that it has shifted east of us now. That's good news here.
Maybe worse for others.

One thing I noticed today at one of the local Walmarts was about 100 Asplundh crews parked in the parking lot. I guess they were expecting the hurricane to hit here so they pre-positioned a boatload of personnel and gear. Now they'll have to drive 100 miles northeast to get to where the action is going to be.

Wasn't this storm originally supposed to go into Mexico ?
Just missed it by a few hundred miles.

yeah, because hurricanes never change paths 1000 miles out.

The current path is now running thru George Bush Park, which is just east of us by about 3-4 miles.  I bike thru there regularly.  I pray for little intensification before it hits.

In the storms and Weather Service's defense, it is hard to tell the difference between Mexico and Corpus.

Official landfall a few minutes ago.

From watching Ryan's channel, the winds for this just don't seem to have any lull periods.  Most of the hurricanes I was in would have 5-10 minutes of really intense winds and then blowing 40-50 for a bit and kick back up.  These winds just don't seem to calm down what so ever.  Not sure if this is actual or just harder to tell due to a night landfall.

Just lost power in the League City/Dickinson area. Winds and rain are varying, some periods of really intense rain and probably 30-40mph wind, then it backs off to 15-20mph and the rain slacks off to almost nothing.

Tried to sleep but this wind is crazy.

The last time we had an event like this was 16 years ago with Ike and we’re in the 2nd week of July

November can’t get here fast enough.

Conroe reporting:

started hearing some wind and rain hitting the window around 4

just went for a quick recon drive around the city - nothing spectacular just light rain for the time being

most places were closed, luckily found a gas station open for some coffee.

now back at the house tuned into coverage.

looking like this is going to be an all day thing - kinda "fun" that its happening during the day as opposed to night

Harris County Flood Warning System site (harriscountyfws.org) is showing that much of Houston has taken 4+" of rain within the last 24 hours.  Streams aren't flooding yet, per it, but that's more rain already than expected for this point.

Per a post one of you made, upthread, we're getting tornado warnings now too.  Still hasn't been full on hurricane winds yet in The Woodlands, like we saw here a few months earlier with that weird thunderstorm event, but I'm sure they'll ratchet up too.  Along with every traffic light getting knocked out for a week or two, like last time.
