What to do if you left illegal contraband in a hotel? Lol I hope he's no longer in California. Shut the fuck up and call a lawyer Monday

Pepper his Angus. Is he still in CA? I'd just switch hotels and everything if so. Hopefully they didn't turn in his name and all that as well. |

They’d have to argue in court that he physically possessed the illegal magazine or whatever the fuck they call it which might be difficult given what facts we know, but still, not smart and he may be in for some shit.

Calling and admitting to owning it was pretty stupid. He could have asked if they found anything in the room and said "Gun? I don't own a gun!" and maintained it must have been from a previous guest. Now he admitted to owning something illegal.
Make sure he doesn't fuck himself ever further by calling/talking to the police "to explain things."

Since it was found in the hotel and turned into police by an employee of the hotel he doesn't have too much to worry about. Even if he's from a state with registration, any decent attorney should keep anything from happening.
He should still shit bricks, and call an attorney though. |

What exactly does fopa protect? Traveling through states with these bs restrictive laws, unlike others here I hope he gets his legally owned gun back and california has to unfuck themselves because of this.

Have him call an attorney because I am sure at some point the police will run the serial number and attempt to contact the last known owner of th serial number, |

Since that magazine is illegal in Cali, I probably would stfu about it. At this point they probably won’t charge him because they never saw him in possession of it. But if he calls up there wanting it back and claims he left it in the motel room then maybe they would pursue charges. Personally. I’d just STfU about it.

Ideally, he'd be on his way out of the state right now.
If leaving meant losing his job, next best thing would be to immediately find a different hotel - preferably in a city served by a different police department. In the short term, the police will probably be too busy dealing with New Years drumks and disturbances to do much about it. |
