The fact that multiple people in one small thread admit to owning guns they don't know the model of explains a lot of things.

As for the “not knowing” part, that was a bit of embellishment on my part. If I’d said he left the exact model number in a hotel in the specific city, I’m sure there’s at least one A_Rock who would be reporting this thread to the local PD.

CA resident here It’s not a big deal just a ticket/misdemeanor for having a magazine with capacity over 10.

Some of the responses in this thread are over the top.
Where he was in CA makes a huge difference. He may get everything back. He is unlikely to be charged with a crime. Most likely he'll get his gun back but the magazine will "disappear" while in police custody. The law that makes mere possession of a standard-capacity magazine a crime was quashed by a federal judge last year. Proving that he brought it into the state would be too much of a hassle for most prosecutors. There are police departments in the state that would simply give him all of his stuff back. |

Calling and admitting to owning it was pretty stupid. He could have asked if they found anything in the room and said "Gun? I don't own a gun!" and maintained it must have been from a previous guest. You fuckers are a bunch of defeatist I personally walked through one of the biggest hotels on the river walk in SA with a 12 gauge riot shotgun in my hand like I was hunting doves. Held my head high. Fucking Vallet attenendant would not park the truck because he looked behind the seat and saw the shotgun. All my bags were in my room so I grabbed the shot gun and went to the elevator. Some kid ran into the elevator with me and a mom with the longest arm I ever saw reached in that elevator and said “not this elevator” I still smile when I think of it. |

I know, this is one of those basic ones, but honestly, I live in AZ and do not concern myself with CA laws, even when driving through CA. I need a separate class of license to possess AR-15’s and pistols. With that class of license I can own firearms with barrels of almost any length (must be 4-1/4” or greater). Some people have an older class of license which grandfathered them to be able to own firearms with barrels shorter than 4-1/4”. Maybe because of this I don’t take anything for granted when it comes to firearms laws. I know that I cannot take my M1A into NY state because it has a flash hider. My AR-15’s are all illegal in NY state. I know that I cannot bring a pistol into NYC. I cannot take my 10.5” Noveske into the USA because the barrel length is less than 16” I had to pin and weld the flash hider on my 14.5” Noveske so that it wouldn’t be illegal in the USA. I’m a member at a gun club in VT and travel across the border regularly with firearms. It’s surprising how many of the customs border patrol agents on both sides of the border don’t know all the laws. I’ve spent an hour arguing with a US CBP agent who didn’t want to let me into the USA with a Stag 3G AR-15 but didn’t see an issue with my 14.5” Noveske AR-15 with a pinned and welded flash hider. Both were on my ATF form 6NIA and both have Canadian registration certificates. Meanwhile my buddy in the truck with me had a TNW 1919 belt fed. |

Why the fuck did he not bring his California mags? God damn that was dumb as shit. Why the fuck was the do not disturb on the door? Jesus christ this guy is fucking dumb as shit.
EVERY time I bring my glock back to cali in go the 10 rounders and the DND sign is on the door handle the moment I open the door to the hotel. And that shit is hidden in the room if I have to leave. Or it is in the car unloaded. Your buddy is fucked. |

once home I would contact the dept and figure out how to get it shipped back to an ffl in home state. It will probably cost your friend a 100 bucks red label and 4473 at ffl.

I woke up to a series of panicked text messages from a friend who's working in California. He left his Glock in a hotel room. He called them to ask if they found it. They did and they turned it into the police. He said he's not sure of the model, but it holds more than 10 rounds. I know, lawyer and all that, but he's pretty stressed over it, doesn't know what to do, and asked me to ask online since it's the weekend and the middle of the night for him. View Quote if they have already booked it then he will need to submit a LEGR (Law Enforcement Gun Release) to the CAL-DOJ and pay a fee in order to get it back. |

This is what I don’t understand. If he’s carrying a Glock for self defense, how is he carrying it? If it was carried in a holster on your belt, you would realize as soon as you put your pants on that something was missing. Does anyone pocket carry a Glock? Does he Mexican carry? If I were him I would get out of the state Ricky Tickey and try to figure out which department it was most likely handed over to. I would then try to find a lawyer that was local to that department and maybe even on good terms with them. View Quote |

That's my nightmare scenario since I travel and fly a lot. A few years ago I almost left home for the airport with my Glock 19 mag in my computer bag View Quote It took me a minute to remember that I did. I had thrown my car gun into my case when I got home on Friday. I ended up not doing any work over the weekend and completely forgot it was in there. I also had them discover a box of .22WMR’s and a Buck 110 folder on two other occasions. Same deal. Bailiff says “Doyou have....in your case?” I wear my shocked face for a minute and then the realization (remembering) hits me and I sheepishly acknowledge that I probably do. Luckily, it’s locals and they know me pretty well. They just shake their heads now, chuckle and let me go back and stash the weapon stuff in the car. Most are gun guys themselves and understand how it is. |

California laws are silly, illogical, and dangerous. Hope he is not there anymore and I hope the gun was not worth much. If California tries to extradite your friend on a warrant and he is in a gun friendly state get a judge to deny based on the basic civil rights violations of californias gun laws. The nation of Califuckup can suck it.
What is the hotel chain so I can avoid them? |

Sorry but that’s the dumbest thing I’ve read so far this morning with the exception of those wishing him jail time. I’m a Canadian with a NH non resident CCW. Before travelling I go on USA carry and go to NH and click on Non-Resident and a map pops up with the states in blue and red. When in a red state everything goes into a locked case including the holster. The ammo goes into a separate locked case. If I’m ever stopped and for some reason the car is searched I’m ok since I’m just travelling through. You would think that any adult should be smart enough to know that not every state, especially California, doesn’t have the same gun laws. https://i.postimg.cc/W3VKWB7Y/189-E3875-958-B-4-E11-82-A0-F5-D420-CFA2-EE.png Go ahead take me up on the bet. |
