Some guns just ooze elegance & class. The Sig P232 is indeed one of those pistols. Sig took design cues from the Makarov and Walter PP/PPK and created a pistol that’s better in every regard. Better trigger, perfectly shrouded hammer, fewer sharp edges, and a frame mounted decocker that’s vastly superior to the slide mounted safety.
Sadly, Sig Sauer stopped manufacturing this model in 2015. With the new wave of micro 380s and subcompact 9mms, I can certainly understand the business logic behind that decision. Compared to my Shadow Systems CR920, the Sig is heavier, slightly larger, and carries 3 fewer rounds in a weaker chambering. My last pic below shows the Shadow Systems sitting atop the Sig for comparison. That said, there’s something about this pistol that puts a smile on my face. First and foremost, it’s flat out gorgeous. I have fairly large hands, yet it seems to fit me perfectly. It’s beautifully manufactured, attention to detail is evident at every turn. Simply put, it has soul. Maybe I’m getting sentimental now that I’m in my 40s, but there’s a part of me that feels sad that younger generations will miss out on guns such as this one. I always liked the 232. There was a Beretta 80-something in a satin nickel that has serious sex appeal as well.

Glock is the only one that made function over form look good.

P232 is what Dennis Farina bought as a gift for Jennifer Lopez (daughter) in Out of Sight (1998).

I have a CZ-75 Pre B, a B&T Mark 2 and a CZ P-10.
All 3 of these guns are closely related. But it's jarring how elegant the Pre B is compared to the other 2. Which are very reflective of current, brutalist trends in handgun design. |

I do think its an age thing as the older I get, the more I appreciate and yurn for the older all metal guns. They do have more soul IMO
The markings on your 232 is not what I'm use to seeing? Usually the SL guns are marked "232 SL" on the slide and the 'Made in Germany" marking is usually also on the slide, not the frame but I like how yours is done much better. Was yours a blue (nitrided) gun that has was later chromed or something along those lines? |

The Walther PPK is a much better choice. Besides, guns are supposed to be black if one has any sense of propriety.

I saw a P232 at a gun show yesterday.
Truly a beautiful pistol, but I just have no interest in the .380 cartridge. |

I don't care for any .380 Auto or .32 Auto pistols except PPKs and the like.

There's still some out there. But they aren't as common. What it costs to produce those types of pistols is high. Most gun companies are about maximizing profits. Plus a lot of it is very niche.

From the examples you posted, I can tell you are way younger than me. I don't even want to think about the polished metal and gloss bluing of the Browning, Colt, S&W, Weatherby, Walther, Winchesters, etc, of the 70s and earlier!
Profit is all that matters today, and utility finish is the norm. Even the bluing of new classic S&W revolvers today don't shine like the originals. |

It's not beautiful by any stretch of the imagination, but I think both the P238 and P938 are quite elegant. I've been carrying mine for almost a decade, and have no interest in giving it up.
I would jump on a P232 if I just happened on one. I dislike DA/SA, but I'm a sucker for the styling. Attached File |

my 232 is a sweet little blaster. It has been completely eclipsed by all the sub-compact 9mms out there. But it is as cool as the other side of the pillow.

I have both a 230 and a 232. They are nice. Have a PP and PPK as well, and a Mauser Hsc and a Sauer 38H. The Sigs are just nicer.

Meh
There are guns you love to show your friends, and there are guns you trust to show your enemies. They're not always the same. |

I admit that I now confine my elegance to shotguns. My pistols and rifles are utilitarian.

I think you equate “elegant” with “swoopy”. A gun can be elegant without deliberate styling elements added. I think the 1911 is one of the most elegant designs, because the function so perfectly defines the form. I also agree that Glock has the same quality.

OP is correct. It has pizazz. I have always loved the looks of the PPK, but it's been known to have some problems - hammer bite, fussy about ammo. I have little experience with it but have shied away from buying one. I have never shot the little Sig at all. How is it compared to the PPK?
