This thread is awesome! Thank to everyone for pulling me out of a tough time with all this BS going on right now. @KampusKop @CarmelBytheSea In our mall that store was called Keyhole. Ninja stars, Rambo knives, handshake buzzers, whoopie cushions, stink grenades et al. Speaking of malls. I was fortunate enough to see Tiffany live 2 times in 2 different malls. She was hot AF then and I'd still rack her today. Debbie Gibson, Belinda Carslile, Molly Ringwald. Lawd. Playboy magazines were worth more than hard currency. School teachers would still whoop your ass in the 70's. I remember my dad's favorite ass whoopin' method was to grab me by the cuff of the arm and kick me in the ass so hard he had to keep hold of me to keep me from flying away. Atari 2600 and those damned joysticks with one button. The cover of the joystick would always eventually come off and you'd be playing with a sharp ass piece of plastic. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start BB gun wars without even sunglasses on. Red Dawn, Red Dawn and Red Dawn First Blood, M*A*S*H*, GI Joe Watching the original Star Wars in the theater (4 times) Sleeping on the back window shelf of a Grand Torino while driving on family vacation to Disney Land. TV Dinners with tin foil on them. Pull tab cans. Everyone with a truck in high school had a stocked gun rack in their back window in the school parking lot. Tote Goat's. Vuarnet sunglasses with the leather shields. Those sunglasses with the mirrors on the edges so you could see behind you. Women with hairy beavers. The emergence of the woogit. Losing my virginity with Bobby Brown singing in the background. Dam fellas thanks for the memories. I fkn love you guys for this. |

A point lost on many in this thread; generations are fast and loose, that's why you have people argue over where the boundaries are. Generally speaking those in the middle of the bracket are most defined by and define the generation with those towards the gray areas towards the beginning and end of the generation have many of the characteristics of both, they are known as "cuspers". Late 70's born are an example, they're Gen-X but were young enough to experience both events from both i.e. young enough to have played without supervision before dark and analog phones, but still young enough to be impacted by the digital revolution such as the Internet which most Gen Xers were already adults by the time that hit, and most Millenials were still children. As for Gen X I think being born in the 80s really blows past that gray area; many people I know born in the 80's don't remember Gen X defining events from the 80s like the Challenger Shuttle explosion, MTV when they actually played music videos, or the fall of the Berlin Wall. Some have really good memories or was exposed more than others which is why hard drawn lines don't work with generations. Some people are more plugged in or exposed to defining events, others less so. |
