This happened yesterday morning. Desktop computer, and I am logged into my youtube account. I am using Adblock.
I usually watch a video or two while eating breakfast. I pull up the first video and get a popup saying adblockers are not allowed on youtube, and says to either allow ads or pay for premium. There was the X in the upper right of the box, I was able to click that and close the popup and go back to the video. On lunch at work, on a laptop which I am not logged into on anything youtube or google, I had no such issue. Using the same adblocker. Get back home last night and go to watch another video and get the same popup again, but was still able to close it. Doing a couple min worth of looking online, seems this has been happening to a lot of people for a long time. No idea why it suddenly started to me yesterday. This happening to anyone else all the sudden? Anyone have any known workarounds? I saw some online but seems some people said it worked, while others said it did not. So hit and miss. |

I use brave and adblock. So far the only issue is that my homepage doesn't work but I can still search videos and scroll through my subscriptions.
The second youtube makes itself more difficult to use I will simply move completely over to rumble. |
|
adblock + pihole... I never see ads on YouTube on my personal computer.
Sometimes I watch videos on my iPad while I'm at work (in a WeWork office) and I'll get ads. It sucks. |
|
Eventually google is basically going to require drm to use youtube. We are living in the end of the golden age.

Adblock will update and it will go away for a while.
I use Brave built-in ad block and a DNS based ad blocker and I haven't had this problem. Brave does take a little configuration but once set up works great. |

If I have to use a different browser to watch youtube I will.
Any issue logging into your youtube account on other browsers? So far, I can still close the popup. But once I can not close it, then other measures will be taken. |

ublock origin in my blocker of choice.
On iOS, I use the Adblock VPN, and Tube Pro for accessing libtube. |

I also use brave with built in adblock and have no issues with youtube. I don't even get ads on this website, or porn sites.
yikes! |

The popup has been there since I posted this thread. The last few days there has been a countdown timer before you could click the X to close out the popup.
Last night I got the popup saying I have 3 videos left before youtube becomes blocked. I downloaded brave last night and played around with the settings a little. Have not logged into youtube yet. I will try that tonight when I get home. |

I read an article a while back that Youtube/Google was going to start 'going around' the various adblockers. Which sucks, I have been using blockers for ...I don't even know how long. Since they came out.
Been on Brave for a while as well now. I hate on my phone (which has brave) but like Facebook uses it's own built in browser for shit, and good night, the ADS! Most websites are simply unusable on the phone cause it is buried under ads and video ads. jeebus. I keep meaning to get off FB, IG, even Youtube. One day I might actually do it. I've been eyeing the Fairphone. It's a de-googlfied android. Plus it is end user repairable, which is another big plus for me. |
|
YT locked it down for me a few weeks ago. They block me even using Brave with nothing else, but I’ve played around with Adblock and Ublock settings.
One thing I found is I don’t get blocked if I open a video in a new private window. Guess it’s tying the block in to your login to some degree. Just last night I found I was able to block the block screen overlay elements using Ublock and uncover the video. |
|
Seems like the issue is sites being able to detect the adblockers.
If the adblockers had a way to prevent sites from detecting them, then it might help things a lot. Funny, on my work computer, I will watch youtube videos on my lunch break and I am not logged into any youtube or google account on it. I have yet to get the adblocker popup. |
|
This will happen on Brave, but only if you don't keep it updated. It's in your best interest to switch to Brave.

Quoted: At one time, I didn't mind the ads, but today it is way too numerous. View Quote Same. I grew up on broadcast TV and radio. I accept ads for free entertainment easily enough. However, I once put music on YT while working on a project, and I wasn't able to 'skip ad' for a while. It took about 15 minutes before I could get to my phone. I discovered that the ad was 42 minutes long. I got to listen to one song (so... maybe 3-1/2 minutes) before YT stuck in an ad that was 42 fucking minutes. That's the day I set out on my quest to avoid the ads. I have found a way to use YouTube completely ad-free now. If they get ahead of it and find a way to force their ads on me, I'll just stop using it. |

Youtube has followed the same path as cable TV except it seems to have taken things even further.
At first there were hardly any ads, then just a few that you could put up with, then enough that people started trying to circumvent them. Then a few years ago YT slashed ad revenue share with creators. That led to every video having a 1 to 3 minute baked-in sponsored ad read from the talent harkening back to old timey radio days. There is no way in hell I'm sitting through 3-4 several minute YT ads plus the 1-3 minute baked-in ad just for an 8-10 minute video. Even cable TV doesn't have that kind of ratio. Someone find the meme about welcoming back TPB as an old friend because streaming services became too ridiculous |
