Damn smoke detector just started beeping every minute or so. Problem is my apartment has vaulted ceilings and I don’t have a latter tall enough to reach it. Can’t get ahold of maintenance. Fml…

Stack chairs on table to get to it.

Be sure to record it, that way when you fall, we can all laugh with you.

Well, if it’s beeping there must be a fire. Fire trucks have ladders.

Since you’ve decided not to sleep and won’t be needing a bed tonight, take your bed frame apart. Use the frame rail to knock the smoke detector off after spinning it. If there’s the electrical connection and it breaks just tell maintenance that it was already that way when you found it.

I popped it off with a stick and it’s hardwired to the wall. It’s ridiculous they put this thing so god damn high. Is that some kind of code?

Yeah, they're supposed be within 12" of the highest spot for some types of ceiling.

My master bedroom has one that's nearly 20' high due to the vaulting.

try them all.
It probably has a battery though.

I'd try the table+chair. Hold on to the door frame

God damnit. I flipped breaker 13 and it shut off the whole master bedroom, the living room tv, the central air conditioner and seemingly the smoke detector. It still fucking beeped even though the green light shut off.

BTDT

The beeping won't stop if you unplug it from AC power, as you've found out.  Even if you get it down and take the battery out, it will beep a few more times.

Sometimes those AC connectors don't snap in, and maybe if you get a string or rope around it you can pull it down.  I assume that varies among the brands and models though.  That beeping drives me nuts, and I would be willing to destroy it to get it down, but that's just me.

Try a caveman shutdown.

Turn off any shit that's running.

Shut off main breaker and do a 10 count ------------- flip back on ------------------...

If that doesn't work then refer to my first solution...

Of course it beeped, the battery is low.

It's going to beep until you change the battery, or if you turn the breaker off and the battery goes completely dead.

Or if you get to it and can disconnect from power and remove the battery.

You can turn the city block off, it will continue beeping becasue the battery back up is weak.  That is how they are designed.  That is how my wired in detector works.  That is why I have switched to all 10 year battery types, you replace the entire unit, supposedly every 10 years.  I have my phone set up for 2030....message says get down to Home Depot and buy 10 fucking smoke detectors

I just did a due diligence on a property here before take over thar had 1 for the whole unit and stick battery ones in the rooms.

My staff knows to try and talk residents through how to turn them off etc.
Every now and them we get a guy who is to scared to stand on a chair or touch it because " electric ".

My neighbor has had one beeping in his bedroom for a year and a half. I first noticed it spring of 2022 when he had his window open.  It's one of the wired sets so they beep when the backup batteries go bad so it never stops beeping like a battery only one would.
