Damn smoke detector just started beeping every minute or so. Problem is my apartment has vaulted ceilings and I don’t have a latter tall enough to reach it. Can’t get ahold of maintenance. Fml…
Stack chairs on table to get to it.
Be sure to record it, that way when you fall, we can all laugh with you. |
Well, if it’s beeping there must be a fire. Fire trucks have ladders.
Since you’ve decided not to sleep and won’t be needing a bed tonight, take your bed frame apart. Use the frame rail to knock the smoke detector off after spinning it. If there’s the electrical connection and it breaks just tell maintenance that it was already that way when you found it.

I popped it off with a stick and it’s hardwired to the wall. It’s ridiculous they put this thing so god damn high. Is that some kind of code?

OP, if you've never listened to any Loveline clips, you'll love it. Adam went on epic rants back in the day. This one is related to your situation.

My master bedroom has one that's nearly 20' high due to the vaulting. |

God damnit. I flipped breaker 13 and it shut off the whole master bedroom, the living room tv, the central air conditioner and seemingly the smoke detector. It still fucking beeped even though the green light shut off.
It'll still beep with breaker off. Beat it like a pinata until it breaks.
Well I got a hold of emergency maintenance finally. She said “stop calling me, I don’t work there anymore.” Isn’t that lovely?

The beeping won't stop if you unplug it from AC power, as you've found out. Even if you get it down and take the battery out, it will beep a few more times. |
Quoted: So what can I do? View Quote Sometimes those AC connectors don't snap in, and maybe if you get a string or rope around it you can pull it down. I assume that varies among the brands and models though. That beeping drives me nuts, and I would be willing to destroy it to get it down, but that's just me. |

Try a caveman shutdown.
Turn off any shit that's running. Shut off main breaker and do a 10 count ------------- flip back on ------------------... If that doesn't work then refer to my first solution... |

Took down the smoke detector huh. No way could I get any sleep now. I'd be up all night worrying about a fire. Does anyone else smell smoke?

I replace them all at one once the first one starts to chirp
I can't believe someone said to cut the power to it |

I've had one chirping every few minutes for a few months. Your brain tunes it out if you forget about it.

It's going to beep until you change the battery, or if you turn the breaker off and the battery goes completely dead. Or if you get to it and can disconnect from power and remove the battery. |

That is how my wired in detector works. That is why I have switched to all 10 year battery types, you replace the entire unit, supposedly every 10 years. I have my phone set up for 2030....message says get down to Home Depot and buy 10 fucking smoke detectors |

These things never start to chirp in the morning. They always wait till you’re laying down to sleep or when it’s 3 am and you’re dreaming about being balls deep in Salma Hayek.

Oof, OP... if you had a good husband to look after you and the furbaby, this would've taken 5 seconds
