My wife likes to, every once in a while, test the smoke detector from the kitchen(if ya get my meaning, wink wink).

Last year I called State Farm got a guy working from home.
I said is there something wrong with your phone, I hear a loud beeping. He said that's just my smoke detector.

Fml… Root cause analysis would suggest you accepted the risk of living in a unit with a smoke detector you can't reach with your current tools. Buy a decent ladder, and some spare 9 volts. The other detector batteries will fail in short order. Our last house had a great room with a vaulted ceiling 24' high, and two hardwired detectors. It also had electrically run dormer windows at the peak...over a concrete floor. I didn't really want a 26' extension ladder, but I had to have one. Not our stuff, photo from the original listing.
