I see what you're saying, but I have to ask, do you have kids?Because staying behind and getting shot and leaving that family without a dad is so manly. I'm not saying he should have ran out but I think he should have at least helped him family and not ran by himself but I don't fault him for not wanting to die. I would do everything in my power to save my kids. eta Not that I would bring little kids to a midnight showing of anything, ever. Having kids or not having kids doesn't change what I wrote. He shouldn't have ran out without his family but in the moment, some people freak out/panic and don't think about things like that. Not everyone is Billy Badass. /shrug You do not have to try to be "Billy Bad Ass" to try to get your family out of danger. No one is saying this guy should have jumped up, charged into the line of fire, and tried to wrestle the guy to the ground. However, jumping up and running as fast as you can for the exit while leaving your two kids and girlfriend behind to die is well... despicable. Those were his survival instincts. If people want to call him a pussy and a coward for it, then so be it. But not everyone is going to feel that way. I don't need to make any excuses for him. And that's YOUR (and a lot of peoples' opinions on here but Arfcom isn't the fucking world) opinion......apparently his opinion was different. He had/has the wrong opinion. /shrug You're right, kind of, but I don't think either you're explaining it well or many are not understanding what you're saying. He IS a coward, big time. If something did happen to his children he would have been an even bigger shitstain of a man. That's what he IS, no buts about it. Remember that story about the family in conneticut, that doctor whose wife and daughter were followed home from shopping by those two dirt bags. They climbed in the basement window, UNARMED tied up the father, raped and girls, took the mom back out to the bank to withdraw money, killed the mom and tied the girls to their beds and set the house on fire. The older sister managed to get loose, died trying to save her sister. Only after the house was on fire and the father was personally in mortal danger did he manage to get free and save his own worthless ass. He has to live with himself but probably justifies it somehow. I want to say that it is part of the "me,me,me" era, but I'm not sure. There just seems like there's far more worthless cowards around now than there ever were. Unfortunately there weren't any Samuel Williamses in the theatre that night. Good point about the other dad who didn't try to save his wife and daughters. At first I wasn't sure that he wasn't just found by police but his own testimony at trial describes how he just left out the door, never even attempting to save his wife and daughters. |

Thanks for not referring to this pussy as a man.
Seriously... WTF is wrong with him? |

The cowardice stain of leaving your children to save yourself is one of those things. +1 I can't imagine leaving my kids in that situation. Risking my life to save them wouldn't even take thought. It would be purely instinctual. There would be no other option, and I can honestly say this has nothing to do with being "Billy Badass", |

First off, most people can only speculate on what they would do when the bullets start flying, I would say most in society as well as most in here haven't been in the same dark room with someone who opened fire randomly on people. Pretty easy to say "I'm a man" while hiding behind a computer. I've never been under fire, I don't know what I'd do to be honest, I would hope I would watch out for my family but once bullets start flying the ol "fight or flight" kicks in and only then do you know what you would do.
But keep it up tough guys!! |
|
I said a lot of people were sheepish and cowards in the whole ordeal in the main thread and people gave me shit, but I wasn't off base even if I was "insensitive". I know the situation sucked, but some people are just downright cowards especially with children to protect.

This guy is a textbook definition of a coward. It seems he has no concept of courage as he sees no shame in what he has done.

Don't know if anyone caught this, but 19 year-old Jarell Brooks actually braved what the flat-bill wearing pussy couldn't do in the first place.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/dark-knight-rises-shooting-victim-stopped-young-mom/story?id=16822336#.UApsQp8tiz0 ....
Jarell Brooks, 19, has been released from Denver General Hospital and is now recovering at home after he suffered a gunshot wound to the leg after James Holmes, once a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Colorado, allegedly set off smoke bombs and opened fire on the unsuspecting audience, killing 12 people and injuring at least 50 in the attack. He was quickly apprehended by authorities. Brooks said that when Holmes started shooting everyone scrambled for the exits. While trying to get out of the theater, he saw a woman, later identified as Patricia Legarreta, struggling to get herself and her two children out. He said he crawled on top of Legarreta in an attempt to push her and the kids out the door but then couldn't get out himself. .... ETA: Can't quote for shit |

oh so many tough guys that know exactly what they'd do when tear gas is popped off in a dark room and bullets start flying. I'm feeling rather inferior around so many high speed/low drag operators that have been there and done that...........

Even though I do not have children, my father made it a point of pounding it into my head that the instant you become a parent that child is to become THE single most important person in your life.
It's a father's duty to protect is wife/girlfriend and children at all costs. Period. |

I"m no one's troll account, I'm just trying to point out the fact that unless you've served and seen combat up close and personal you have no idea what your instinct will tell you to do. It should tell you to protect them but until you've been there all you can do is hope.

a lot of us here have been trained to face danger, either in the military or law enforcement/corrections. but even then, it doesnt always work out the way we plan or think in our minds when SHTF. |
