German infantry vs. American & British infantry
ms gamboolgals father was in the 101st all the way thru WW2, in all the fights and he was never wounded. He was in the original bunch that started at Taccoa. He was in the 501 PIR, HQ 3, 3rd Battalion. I would talk to him for hours about growing up poor in East Texas before he joined the Paratroopers and then of his war experiences. Mr. Beam would not talk of the killing outright but he did tell me on more than one occasion that he had utmost respect for the German Soldiers. He said they were excellent soldiers - tough and would kill you in the blink of a eye. Mr. Beam passed in 2008 and I miss him to this day. He was a father to me. ETA - I can't figure how to post pics or I would of Mr. Beam. One is of him at Nuremberg when he was a guard and also on Eisenhower's Honor Guard. He escorted several of the Nazi's to and from the Trials and some to the Gallows. My uncle fought the Japs - would not talk of it at all. Same for some other relatives that fought the Japenese - they all had hard feelings till they died. |

I would also place religious fervor here. 3. Discipline. Roman Empire is a prime example of this. 4. Fear. Groups that have pushed people into line, drafted them, machine gun those retreating, etc. I recall that from one of my psych/leadership classes or something. |
