The fact that the chicken hawk is a protected species is retarded.....that is all.

So, your hawk trap worked. I wouldn't publicize that too much.
Cool video, however. |

Hawk was playing Possum. Looked like he was saying "Come at be bro!" I killed this motherfucking chicken and I'll be damn if you don't let me have it. Sorry for the loss of the Chicken, but as mentioned, it's a bird of prey and the chicken is the prey, so! Thanks for sharing, glad the Hawk was good to go, they're beautiful birds. |

FSA. Anyone with more than one chicken didn't come by it honestly. The hawk was just trying to get what he deserved. He heard about his "Obama Chickens" and figured he'd help himself, that Chicken won't be coming home to roost anytime soon! |

what was the end result. The video wouldnt play past 24 seconds

I know what my grandfather would have done. He hated them for killing his chickens and ducks.

Possum hawks are dangerous....just stick your hand down there if you don't believe me.
Whilst i have not personally had any runins twixt my chickens and the local possum hawks, the neighbors tell me "what happens off camera, STAYS off camera." That being said, i have no personal knowledge of any possum hawks having ever been harmed in the "not" filming of a video. |

Learn to hold your camera while you're videoing! Argh. Or upload to YouTube & let them fix it. |

Red tail hawks and karakaras ate the shit out of our chickens (like 7 or 8 in about 6 months) until we got some guinea fowl. Guinea fowl are fucking gangster.

I have heard about hawks "playing possum" (seriously) when they are cornered/flying is not a means of escape. They will do exactly that, lay on their back with their talons up and basically play dead. If you had stuck your hand down there.....bad things would have happened to your hand. I had only read about it, I had never actually seen it - cool video. Sorry about your chicken though. I started wondering that too, good on OP for not touching it! You never know what that guy might have done, I didn't like the look in it's eyes! No joke! When he moved the first time and I saw he wasn't dead, it would have been enough to cause me pause. |

why did I find that video hilarious, not only does it freeze up when "stressed," but it makes a tarded face as well
sorry for your loss OP |

Quoted: Quoted: Protected species. Expect to get loved gently by the feds. When the feds show up, get proof that the hawk was theirs. Then sue the shit out of them for damaging your property. We read a case about that in law school. Guy shoots a bunch of geese for eating his corn. Gets prosecuted by the feds. Sues the feds for the damage done by the geese protected by the feds. Loses. |

Protected species. Expect to get loved gently by the feds. It should be legal to kill anything that attacks your livestock. And yet it is NOT. I have chickens, geese, turkeys, ducks and there is NOTHING you can do when a hawk attacks. I will not even joke about SSS. the wildlife guys have incredible search/siezure powers. |

Funny, when I saw a red tailed hawk do this 'freeze' and subsequently run over by an off duty officer, I was told repeatedly that no hawk would ever do that. Winning. |

Thats odd. Any clue why it was acting like that? Almost like it had been hit in the head with a shovel prior to the videotaping. No proof the hawk killed the chicken. Perhaps the hawk was simply enjoying a nap on a comfy dead chicken when you tried to anally violate it with a shovel |
|
That's funny. Not that he got your chicken, but it was like the hawk was giving up to you........."Okay, 'ya got me mister"
|
|
That was a COOL vid, sry 'bout your dead bird though
But the "look" on that hawk....as someone stated earlier, looks like a dog after getting busted, roll over and that "look" like "Wut?" Never thought they would play dead either. Thought maybe your bird hurt it at 1st |
|
Just re-watched it with my son, noticed how he curled it's wing in like an old cheesy horror movie Vampire

I wonder if that was more just a defensive position than actually playing dead. He was doing a pretty good job of keeping the business end pointed your way. . thats exactly what he was doing, he wanted his meal, so he was making himself look all mean and badass. |

I get to watch Redtail's hunt all day in the RR yard I work in. Grain hoppers drop grains of all sort on the rail, pigeons swarm the grain, Redtails hunt from atop light poles and riding thermals above the yard. They strike out of no where, then drag the pigeon away and eat the breast out or fly it to the top of a telephone pole and get to chowing. I even saw one trying his damnedest to drag a racoon across five tracks to a dead area of the yard. Guy could barely get it off the ground. He had a hell of a time eating that big ass meal.
Some damn good times watching those birds... |
