The size of volume of the chamber is 11,500 cubic MILES.  If I remember math right, that means that each side of the cube containing that material would be around 3800 miles.  Thinking of a magma chamber that is roughly the size of most of this country is pretty staggering.
If nature decides to blow up that one, there wouldn't be a damned thing anyone could do about it, and I imagine it would end most life on earth.

You don't remember math right.
The cube root of 11,500 is 22 and a half.

It's still big and it will kill us but don't go all panicky about it.

Krakatoa lowered global temps by about 3F for about 5 years. This would be an order of magnitude far greater than that eruption. Toba supposedly dropped temps by an estimated 21F. Then there's acid rain over much of the world that'll kill off most plant and animal life. I'm sure there'd be pockets of survivors but the large majority 95%+ would be dead in under a year. Kinda hard to prep for that

Lex, take a look at the prior history

2,000,000 - 1,200,000 = 800,000 years
1,200,000 - 640,000 = 560,000 years
640,000 - 0 = 640,000 years

it cant be an extinction level event every 600,000 years and animals still exist that trace their ancestry back to the age of dinosaurs.... it would only be a suck level event.

Actually there have been 11 eruptions of that particular hot spot in the last 16.5 millions years.  The Snake River plane is a series of collapsed caldera formed as the North American plate moved over the hot spot.  Sure hate not to be able to go see this again.
