Mine was 35k in 08 and I'm in sc. 18x40 foot, I think my shallow end is 3.5 foot and my deep is 8.5 foot. Pretty basic, concrete all around it, vinyl liner, saltwater, diving board, de filter. If you do heat, do solar. My operating costs are basically electricity, I have to buy a $100 test kit every other year, and maybe $20-30 of salt a year because I don't cover it, so the rain dilutes it when I drain excess water. Otherwise, I *may* have to adjust ph, or total alkalinity, or cya, but not normally, and when I do it's a few dollars, per year. My pump, booster pump for cleaner, and chlorine generator cost about $80 a month to run.

Inground salt water liner pool, concrete deck all the way around, gas heater, walkout on both ends. |

Too many variables to say really. That is why I posted what I did. For me with a IIRC, 2-HP main pump/2 speed, 1-1 HP booster pump for Polaris cleaner, running them to do the job, forgetting to turn off for a few days, running on high for a week,etc. I estimate $20-40 extra. I run my pump at 220V. The new VFD drive pumps cost 30-40% less to run. |

I have slaved over one for 5 years now and understand why many get filled in with dirt.
During the season almost everyday you spend time on it. Money?? Plan on spending a equal amount each season that you would spend buying a new black rifle 
If you want one, go buy a house w/ one already installed , screw spending 50-70K on something that is not going to add value , they add almost no value to a home in my area |

Our health club has a complete water park with slides, rock wall, lazy river, giant outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, etc...go at the right times, you get the place to yourself pretty much. So, combine those two things with 2-3 trips to various lakes in the summer, and we pretty much have swimming/water fun covered. For way less than a pool. Plus, we have family close by with a nice IG pool, and two other friends with IG backyard pools...several neighbors have AG pools all the neighborhood kids play in. |

It's always cheaper to buy a family membership to the local country club pool than installing a inground pool. Even in the long run.
Having your own private pool is a luxury and certainly has its perks: privacy, a quiet family experience, drunken cook outs with friends or even sex in the pool. I'd compare it financially to paying for repairs on a paid off automobile versus buying new. The new car smell and features are really nice, but it's always cheaper to fix your baby. Some folks can afford the luxury of brand new cars every other year and some pay for a pool membership. Kind of apples and oranges I know, but just my thoughts. |

Thank you. Going on the 4th Summer we've had it and we absolutely love it. Maintenance is literally 10 minutes a week in the Summer. Salt water is great! Never used our back yard before....now it's all we do. |

I'm looking into getting one next year possibly. I look it at it as its the cheapest but yet most expensive entertainment for the kids. I know every time my wife drags the kid home from her friends house who has a pool, he's passed out like sorority girls on a Saturday night and it's fucking quiet around here.
I'm also going to use it for exercise. They make belt systems that allow you to swim laps without ever really moving but get your time in. I grew up with a pool and the strongest time of my life was when I was swimming in high school and college. Now that I don't have one to use as cardio, everything else suffers. Prices around here range from $20k to infinity and if you do salt water, it's cheaper and less maintenance. Buddy of mine spends about what chlorine per month costs for an entire year of maintenance for salt. |

We're probably getting one this year. I think with a rock fire pit, rock benches it will be $50K. If I add a hot tub it will more. Our house is on a hill with great views and the nearest neighbor is 200 yards away so it will look pretty nice. No kids and money to burn.

Hard to tell, because the AC comes on around the same time we open the pool. I'll guess around $25 a month. We run it on a timer, about 8 hours a day |

A good friend I went through grade, junior, and high school has been a local swimming pool/'spa contractor for close to 35 years. He is finishing up a job that will approach $400,000. He's doing full landscaping, bath house, outdoor kitchen, a rock mountain with a cave, and water slide. As the Honorable Aimless noted, for his area of the country, the same is true in Indiana---about 3 months a year without heater. I oncee asked him what a "big" job would have been when he was starting out. He said "$7,000, and we could go out and have steak when the check cleared".
