Quoted: Here's a nice .30 caliber rifle. A Parker Hale .30-06 with a 6x42 Meopta scope https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/234818/20201227_142531-2880811.jpg View Quote I would humbly suggest avoiding skip line checkering in the future, though. |

In true ARFCOM fashion get both. .398 and 6.5. Get an AR-10 in .308 and get an upper in 6.5CM.

You should just ask your husband, he probably has a 30 cal or two.

What do you want this .30 firearm for and what is your budget?
Because you listed a SCAR 17, I'd say that's going to be your likely answer, but gotta know the answers above. |

CMP .308 expert grade garand for a shooter. (Or OG caliber service grade if less shot and more admired).
It is a small hassle to be eligible to buy from them. But the shipping is free and right to your door. And it’ll actually work and be priced fair. |

Quoted: IMHO everyone should have an AK or two, and all the accoutrements, however I guess the days for amassing inexpensive ammo for em are over... View Quote I saw some relatively cheap AK ammo in a spam can for around .44 cents per round from one of the friendly NATO formerly Warsaw pact countries. Look for Turkey to pick up making 7.62x39 as well as PSA is planning to make steel case combloc ammo. As to the OP question, you can pick up an inexpensive AR in x39 or x51 from PSA or BCA. In my case I had to have both. I have an AK and SKS from when they were really cheap too, but I really think a man needs a good .308 battle rifle. An AR for the cost and good ergonomics. |

My first .308 rifle was a M1A Loaded.
I gave it to a friend of mine after several months. Now my shooters are LMT 308s. |

I don't shoot them as often as I should but :
M1 Garand M1 Carbine Couple of Springfield 03s Couple of 30-30s Lots of smaller than 30 caliber guns do some excellent shooting but in the back of my mind thinking of a total end of the world kind of thing the ability to shoot cast bullets comes into play. Some of the small stuff can be messed with to somewhat work with cast bullets but many 30 caliber guns work a whole lot better. This line of thinking is sort of moot for me because my ammo fort far exceeds what I could shoot in the time I have left. Not that I plan to check out any time soon , just that I have a solid fort. To answer the OP - Most folks don't need 30 cal rifles if the have plenty of other stuff but you should WANT some 30 cal rifles because they can be useful and lots of fun. Now, lets do .357 .375 .44 and .45 caliber rifles! |

Get a PSA AR-10 .308 to at least a battle rifle in the house and then take your time and figure out what you need.

Gay poll is gay. M1 Garand or FAL are the only correct answers.

CMP has some field grade Garands. That would be my first choice.
I’ve got a Garand and a RAR in .30-06. Sucks to shoot it in the Ruger, the M1 is awesome. .303 in the SMLE isn’t great either, but I still love shooting it. I built a couple AKs. They’re fun, but not as cheap as they used to be. Plus an XCR with a conversion kit so I can shoot 5.56 or 7.62x39. Also built an FAL. It’s cool, but I think I expected it to be cooler. |
