Why does fishing have to be "rated" anyway? If you enjoy it, do it. If not, don't.

Quoted: As a fellow brother angler...you're missing out! Once you start using braid, you'll never want to use another line. Far superior to mono. No memory, incredible sensitivity, and smaller diameter. Just start with Power Pro. It's cheap and works well. Hi Viz 10-30lb to flouro leader. It's a game-changer. View Quote Well, yes and no. I use braid for all the light inshore stuff and it's everything you say, but offshore that mono ability to stretch is what saves you from breaking rods and rod holders. Letting the wife set the drag on braided reels has snapped several rods before when a good sized mahi or cobia hits. |

I use braid/leader for everything. |

Me and my buddies fished all. The. Time. As a kid into teens. Kinda tapered off over the years, took my kids fishing a few times, then went sometimes on the free fishing weekends.
Still have my stuff. Thinking about getting a fishing kayak, as my wife and I have talked about getting some. Then we got her one last week, and I tried it out. Its OK, but I think I want something a bit more stable. As for the fish, I would toss them back. The few I tried to clean were hack jobs because I never properly learned to do it. |

I like fishing, to eat the fish. I don't care for catch and release, but I'm not surprised others like it.
|
|
I just want to fish with traps and a gill net. Method of catch is absolute bullshit. Set the fucking limits and call it a day. If I want to spear a fucking salmon, I should be allowed the opportunity.
I need to spend some time in Alaska with the natives that get to experience true freedom. |

Not reading 5 pages, but lake fishing is for womenz. Offshore fishing is for men .

Quoted: For sure agree with all of that, but I'm super curious why people enjoy it. Is it a personality disposition thing, or a "my father fished so I fished" thing, etc.. View Quote I like to eat them sometimes. I like to catch a big / bigger one every now and then. I generally catch some fish every time I go. I use light tackle so getting a big one in is not a sure thing. My kids enjoy it and have forced me to learn nome new methods to catch more / larger fish. |

Bloody Decks.!
Attached File Off Malibu..some friends. One is an expert bowhunter, the other a pretty good surfer and skier. ETA if you’re the accompanying friend of a rabid fisherman…you’re a fishwife. |

I use to love off shore fishing when I lived on the coast but there's something real relaxing going at the break of dawn on a quiet lake .

Quoted: A lot of guys like spending money on cool shit. If I ever got into fishing, I think I'd pride myself on spending the least amount of money. View Quote @ProfessorFalken I placed third in one kayak tourney, sixth in a state tourney using an $800 kayak that most KBF leaguers would turn their noses up at. The third place was using a $12 Spiderman kiddie pole (It was a Barbie pole fundraiser) and the state was using a Zebco spincast. It ain't the bow, it's the Injun. Hell, I've seen Mexicans landing fish with a can real on a stick. You don't need a $4000 Hobie ProAngler and $500 rods to chase fun on the water. 19" creek magnum landed on a Zebco Z03 spincast and an Ugly Stik. Attached File |

Salt water fishing is awesome. And with that comment, i know you've never fought a four lb Spotted Bass in a running clearwater tributary. Don't get me wrong. I've waded Rockie Mt streams for trout, done inshore and offshore, but my sole favorite is a trip down a running creek or river. We have Tucanare Peacock Bass in FL and they're a heck of a fight in FL canals and get up to 20lbs. https://fishingbooker.com/blog/media/Peacock-Bass-2.jpg Beaut! I'd love to catch a Peacock one day. I've followed a youtuber called Monster Mike for a while. He's down your way. Peaccocks are his jam. I've caught larger fish than what i posted. Hanging into mentally I'll Coosa Spot, in a flowing creek, with all it's snag points is more of a blood rush fight than a 6lb LM. |

Yesterday our boys caught several tuna, bluefish and Black Sea bass.
Dinner was tuna sashimi, sea bass ceviche, and smoked bluefish. It fed 25 adults. |

Quoted: I grew up fishing at a lake, and always thought that was a lot of fun. Stopped for years, then a few years back kind of dipped my toe into Fly Fishing a bit. Did most of my fishing out near Aspen/RFV. I thought being there was awesome. Loved being in the water, and the views. But I found myself not wanting to catch anything, because it ruined the catharsis of it all. I'm not even particularly a big fan of fish, most of it tastes like shit with Tuna being the obvious exception, and that's typically cooked in a very different way. Is it just all about comparing what kind of fish you caught? ie: A dick measuring contest on who can catch the biggest and best fish? Why do people like fishing so much? Or does it deserved to be lopped in the Brisket Category? View Quote 1st one I ever caught...on a rod I built. I've fished all my life..and still do. Built rofs, tied flies all of it. My daughter and wife fish to. Lot of times it just being " out there" that's the fun part. Attached File |

I love jigging up Walleye. I have to say that ocean fishing looks pretty awesome, but it is a bit far from Wisconsin!

I thought the real reason so many old guys go fishing was to get away from their wife and house chores.

I love fishing. Freshwater or saltwater, bring it on. My favorite type of fishing is wade fishing/exploring small creeks and fishing for smallmouth on light tackle

I agree w op . Kinda over rated . Now the whole drinking beer on a boat thing I could be in with .
I do enjoy going out on my buds pontoon . Maybe we swim a bit maybe we don’t . Just talking and getting away . |

I love to eat fish.
The BEST fish to eat is the freshest caught fish. It’s that simple. |

I would have agreed with you for most of my life, then I had children. Fishing with my kids is magical.

I fish for damn near everything in my area for a living, subsistence, and sport. In-shore, off-shore, fresh water, or ice fishing; you name it and I’m probably after it during their season/run.
Any catch and release stuff is because my kid wants to fish for species neither of us have any interest in eating, like bass or northern pike. I prefer slower paced fishing for more difficult to catch species like salmonids not only for the challenge, but also because it’s relaxing and they taste great. Some people just enjoy fishing in general. |

Fishing is the exact opposite of what I do all week most weeks. During the work week, I barely get time to think about anything but what I'm working on and the next dozen things I'll be working on, with constant interruptions. Bait and wait surf fishing is true relaxation for me. It's about the only time I can blank my mind, just sort of watching waves from my lazy beach chair. Sometimes my peace is broken by a fish, but that's okay, I can get him sent on his way pretty quick. My wife will join me sometimes. She knows the drill, and can stay busy with a book and a nap for hours. Wet feet = time to move back.

I added it up, I spent 32 hours fishing in the past 7 days.
For those who surf fish for blues, what do you do with them? We get them in the surf in late summer, but they are smaller than east coast blues and most folks consider them trash fish. |

Quoted: I would have agreed with you for most of my life, then I had children. Fishing with my kids is magical. View Quote Oh no, you're nuts, I've seen how that goes... Fishing with kids is nothing but untangling fishing line all day while occasionally getting impaled by a hook. And you never catch a fish because the kids are so frickin loud. |

Aside from being outdoors and messing around with buddies I also find it kinda boring.

Quoted: For sure agree with all of that, but I'm super curious why people enjoy it. Is it a personality disposition thing, or a "my father fished so I fished" thing, etc.. View Quote My dad took me fishing hardly more than a handful of times. Pan fish and bullheads. I pretty much hated fishing as a kid. Met my wife when I was 30 and she fished a little so it got me into it. Now I live fishing and she hates it. She never was really into it. Mostly just going to Canada with her extended family. When I retire I hope to fish more, where I can get away for 2-3 days at a time instead of just a Saturday morning. |
