Quoted: In Texas get to the saltwater. Never know what your gonna get! You can be as serious, or not, as you want to. Bays, jettys or surf, just give it a whirl. Trout (Specs), Redfish, flounder, heck even sheepshead, whiting or bigger croaker are decent eating. Soak some live or dead shrimp freeline or under a popping cork. Spoons, jigs, etc. Lots of lighter tackle ways to have fun and learn to get some good tasting fish to bring home. I grew up doing everything outdoors. Fishing, hunting, trapping and so on. Ate wild game a lot and sold fur from trapping.
Not a big fan of venison so I stopped hunting, I still fish sometimes, mostly ice fish. Sold my boat a few years ago. I do love eating fish though and used to have fresh fried or baked fish atleast once a week. I guess I just kind of out grew it all. |

My ffavorite thing aout fishing was sitting in my row boat smoking a cigar with my dog right beside me. I didn't care if I caught anything

Just spent most of the last two days on a Kenner 23 bouncing around Rockport/Port Aransas.
Little burnt and legs and feet are a bit sore but it was a blast. Started one day catching a menagerie of 8 different kinds of fish in one spot (no keepers) then bounced around targeting specs. Then went after drum to change it up and then fished lots of shoreline/flats for reds, pulled some off some protruding rocky tail out and then hit the rodeo and finished with a limit of reds. |

Fishing for wahoo and tuna is what you seek. Nothing compares. Both light tasting not fishy fish that are a blast to catch and eat

I was this way until a few years ago. I'm particularly aiming to feed my family more home grown/hunted/foraged/and caught meals. Fishing is what I like to do when hunting seasons aren't open.
That and it's not uncommon to go out for a lazy day of fishing and catch a single random species of fish. But now I'm getting more interested in finding a specific species and catching enough of them to make a meal. And its a cheaper way to nerd out over getting new gear. When you take the time to study individual fish species and tactics, its a lot more fun when you then catch that. But if you'd rather sit by water and chill, more power to you. |

I love the outdoors and I love to eat fish.
I've never been one to sit still too long, though, so most of my fishing is running bank poles and jugs. Drinking beer with my brother or buddy, cruising up and down the river on the boat from sundown until sun up checking lines for big ass tasty flathead. What's not to love? Attached File |

I just figured it was for dudes that couldn’t ride motorcycles and didn’t have a woman they liked.
I do like to eat fish at times but don’t have time to commit to catching them. I just swing into the Indian gals home fish stand and grab some fillets on the way by. $10 a pound and no wasted days on the river. There are other things to do outdoors. Nothing against anyone who is into fishing though. We all have our passions. ?? |

Geez I miss fishing. I haven't in probably 5 years since I moved away from HI.
For me it was always about the zen like focus of it. It just calmed my mind like nothing else (including meditation) has. Then you top it off with a huge high when you land a fish and it's amazing. My favorite was pike in MI. Decent line, a leader, and a jointed rapala rainbow pattern. Man was that fun. Pike are aggressive buggers. Muskie are bigger, but also tamer. For eating, nothing beats deep-cold-water walleye. I also did a ton of spearfishing, which is pretty fun in its own right. Lots of bass and halibut with yellow-tail in the Summer and occasionally tons of meat from a white Seabass in Spring. WSB are the white whale of spearfishing, you've got to be totally silent and they don't appear frequently. Geez I miss fishing. |

Weather permitting I go fishing everyday.. Retired at 54.. Loving it. I actually am wary of people who do not fish..There usually seems to be something off in those that do not do it..LOL

Quoted: I can't understand how fishing is enjoyable either. It's similar to gardening as a hobby. I think I liked it as a kid into my early teenage years, but being trapped on the boat for hours in the heat grew old pretty quick. My dad still likes to go fishing and so do both of my brothers. They go out maybe a couple times a year when they get the chance. I'm always welcome, but I'd rather stay home and stare at the walls than sit out in the heat all day while trying to stab a hook into a worm... To each their own though. I don't have a lot of manly things I enjoy doing though. I'm not into sports, I don't have any interest in cars or wrenching on them, I don't have any interest in hunting, I don't drink beer and I don't like steak. And I think this is the first narphenal post that I'm in agreement with. View Quote Say what you will about the tenets of fishing, at least it's an ethos. |

And hey, if someone likes fishing it doesn't bother me in the least. I'm happy that they have it. I might not be able to understand their deep passion for it, but I can't understand the passion people have for any interest or hobby that I'm not into (which is most things). The world would be much worse off and very boring if we all only liked what I do... However the rare exception of manly perfection I might be. But, fishing falls into the stereotypical list of guy hobbies. Like sports, wrenching on cars & motorcycles, off roading, racing, manual transmission, metal music, hunting, steak eating and beer drinking... These interests are just so commonplace among guys. The only surprising thing to me is that so many get it and are into it and I'm one of the few odd ones out where the draw to these things completely escapes me. Edit: It does make me wonder how many guys are just by nature into these things, or if they were brought into it through peer pressure as they were growing up? But, seeing so many guys just go out on their own to fish or hunt seems to suggest that peer pressure has not much to do with at least those two things. |

None of my friends nor my Father were into bikes. I like motorcycles because I like 'em. I grew up hunting and fishing with my Father. It wasn't peer pressure. It was spending quality time with him. Also, your fishing sounds boring. Specifically freshwater boring. Saltwater flats fishing is a blast. Go from spot to spot, enjoy the sun and surf. Have barracuda hit your bait and fight 'em. See all the hot little chicas float on by on their boats as they sun themselves. Have Metallica playing and enjoying a cigar. |

I much rather use the oven most days. |

I enjoyed playing sports when I was younger, but I just can't understand the idea of sitting on the couch for hours watching someone else have fun. What are your hobbies, if you don't mind me asking? Yeah, really hard to get into anything just sitting there watching. There's just no real reason to be invested in any outcome. I had a few hobbies as a kid growing up to include finding some reason to kind of like fishing. But my only hobbies as an adult have been ARs (specifically the assembly aspect) and to a much lesser extent shooting. I also dabble at the drums, but it seems to be a fading interest. I guess maybe I find some kind of zen in the flawless execution of a perfected assembly technique. The last one was extractor springs... Man that was mind melting getting that one down. |
