Our brains seem to be trained on an instinctual level to fear knives. A criminal might well think that you won't pull the trigger if he rushes at you, but it's entirely different to run at a man holding a spear pointed straight at him. A 14.5" barreled AR with a bayonet doesn't lose much mobility rounding corners, and can in fact hinder Lootie's attempt to grab your barrel as it comes around the corner.

At the very least, I recommend you have one available. More options are better than fewer.

I made a steel sleeve the same diameter as the flash hider for mine. I got an OKC-3S in 2012 during the Sandy Hook AWB hoopla for the sole purpose of libtard butthurt.

I taught the Bayonet Course at Ft. Ord, the quick twist was to relax the pierced muscle quickly to get the bayonet out.  I used a bayonet twice, once in Berlin in 1961 in riot control near the entry gate at Templehoff and the other time in Detroit in 67.  I had just returned from Active Duty and was in the 8/40 Armor Scout Platoon and was sent to that shitty place.  Our bayonets in both cases were sharper than hell which no one was used to.  Several guys cut the shit out of their hands.

@threefeathers
That is very cool that you were an instructor. During my basic training at Ft. Jackson in 1999, the bayonet, grenade and various obstacle and infiltration courses were some of the best times I had. The instructors were excellent. It was something to have a company of soldiers arrayed on the field and training. We still had the DI shout "What makes the green grass grow?!" and a hundred soldiers thundered back "Blood!, blood! Blood makes the grass grow green!" Hearing that echo across the training field was pretty impressive.

My BCT was for all MOSs, but I later went to infantry school, and have to say that the training at Jackson was still quite thorough and rigorous.

Or mounted on a shotgun...... Other than increasing the overall length, which you can adjust to, to an extent, I'm not opposed.

I bought mine before they offered their solid mount version. Aesthetically, I like the QD version that I have better, but I'd certainly consider and purchase their solid mount first, from a practical perspective.

Funny this thread should pop up.  I've been pondering what to prep and I've been leaning toward my WWI weaponry.   I've got my M1897 Trench Gun with the 16" Bayonet at 00 Buckshot for some slamfire fun.  The 1911 (vintage 1918) for backup and if all else fails, I have my trusty 1918 Trench knife to finish things off....  AR's are also ready...

My FIL made sure to keep his 1905 from his Springfield when they issued him an M1 after Guadalcanal.  Said the new bayonet's 10 inch blade let them get 6 inches closer than the 1905 did.
