If Bond upgrades his gun, he's not really Bond anymore. The PPK is a part of the character. Bond is an old school spy and assassin. He doesn't really need a more modern gun like a Glock or Walther PDP to get the job done because he can kill people with his bare hands. In the off chance he does need more firepower, he can easily take a rifle from a henchman or have MI6 provide him with something gucci in advance.

But if I had to choose... Walther PPS M2 LE.

But his preferred carry piece was something nice and light... in a lady's handbag.

A P7 in a shoulder rig under a tux would be übercool, but not very modern. For practicality and efficiency, probably one of the newer microcompact 15rd 9mm choices with a threaded barrel for those engagements requiring a little more discretion.

The novels by Gardener had Bond using a HKP7M13 and then some flavor of Colt 9mm. He also had a Ruger Super Blackhawk in the Saab.

43X with a threaded barrel + slide lock out + micro suppressor would make the most sense in terms of durability / concealability / firepower (specifically with Q supplied 15rd metal mags). Ammo would be 147gr Tungsten core AP subsonic for defeating IIIA vests and automotive glass.

Glovebox/ Briefcase / Mission gun would be a B&T MP9 suppressed, also firing 147gr AP tungsten subsonic.

I believe another author had him the the ASP, which was a legit real life Bond / quiet professional gun by a Q type figure.

A Kahr K9 with transparent grips might make a nice modern version.

And F-N 1903 in License Renewed.  IIRC, Bond also used a GyroJet in that one.

He isn’t supposed to get in gun fights, he is under cover NOT assaulting the bad guys lair. He doesn’t use a ppk when he does hat he uses a rifle or
Other weapon.

Plus Fleming wasn’t a gun guy at all, he had bond’s undercover weapon originally be a .25 beretta.

The new Jamessa Bond will carry a big black rubber dildo up it’s ass in its dildo holster to fight white supremacy, relying primarily on Cancel Culture for backup.

What's the thinnest 9mm available? Concealability under a good suit seems like the key consideration.

A KahrTP9-2, for example, is probably a good choice.

You can tell who didn't pay attention. The first movie has him upgrading his Beretta 418 to the Walther. The change was not his choice, it was forced on him. The 418 was his pistol for the first several books. Remember when the books were set, full power 9mm compacts were decidedly rare.

What do modern intelligence agents carry?  That might be a starting point for a modern James Bond.  Let us face reality.  The last people issued PPKs are no younger than seventy years old at this point in time.

LCP/P365/G43

Taking away his P99 and giving a .380 PPK/S was dumb. It’s not the classic Bond gun and it doesn’t make sense for a film taking place in the present day.

Bruh, go easy on the parmesan.  The P365 has that thing beat, and lasers are a gimmick.  P365 with RD for the win.

Kahr would be the thinnest and lightest, but between the iffy reliability and being a US pistol, it would be doubtful.

The original PPS M1 was comparably thin, and was a true, duty grade subcompact (it was designed as a EU detectives / undercovers gun.) That would have been a great choice for Bond before the P365/G43X came out, although the main issue is that its a totally unsentimental, utilitarian implement.

The P226 got some love in Spectre and the latest one, but I think he should stick with a Walther of some kind. PDP or P99 or their little single stack 9mm would be my choice for him.

Original Fleming Bond pistol was a Walther PPK in 7.65x17 (32 ACP). I thought it strange that the most famous British secret agent used a German made pistol. I suppose Webley had been long defunct leaving no other UK made handguns.

Perhaps the Glock G43.
