I have been tempted in the past to do exactly that.

Always wondered if anyone has ever "bobbed" a 5 ton the way they have for the "bobbed deuces". Might be a handy critter for some farm tasks. The deuce might be big enough though I dunno.

Personally, I've wanted a Sherman since I was a little boy in the early 1960s.

Doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Every Army vehicle I have ever seen has been junk. They need incredible amounts of work just to partially work. And even then somehow they suck.

That said, I’m sure if someone competent was working on it it would be fine

They are out there. Hope you are mechanically inclined.
I've worked on more than a couple of privately owned bits of armor.
While neat, your best friend is money.

I bought 3 deuces from Gov Liq a few years ago.  Didn’t preview any, all were runners.  I paid $1,100 for a 1971 up to $5,000 for a 1999 with a Caterpillar 3116 engine and an Allison auto transmission.  All needed some work of course.

Here is the 1971 after I finished it.

The M4 Composite was the best actor in that movie. I still love watching it.

@FadedSun
@M35Ben

After watching these two work their asses off on BRDMs, and having been a part-time Humvee mechanic on paper rather briefly, one quickly comes to the conclusion that military vehicles depend heavily on a nation-state logistics train.

I always had good luck with army surplus.  In addition to the 3 deuces I bought a diesel generator on a trailer for $600, used it as a standby for 10 years then sold it for $2,000.  Onan 10KW

The best part of those, (outside of the tubeless split rims and their HUGE o rings) Is they are all Dodge. You can get parts at a NAPA.

Friend of mine in Arizona has one of those Diesel bikes.
It is VERY cool in it's own kind of overengineered way.

Kind of like having a Wankel bike, but it will run on just about anything.

LOTS of wrench time on all three.
The Pinzies are especially fun. If you keep up on them they will do amazing things.
The M5's are my second favorite light tank.  Just because I lust after the M-41. But they are still easily one of the best of the WW2 era light tanks.

Always wanted a tank...have no crew, no money, no where to put it, but always thought one of the most fun would be an M-18 Hellcat for high speed fun. Who needs heavy armor when everything on the planet can go through anything WWII anyway.
As for the OP vehicle - now THAT'S a bug out truck! How far would it go before break down?

I will warn you. I have driven a M-18. A lot.
They are way too much engine and way too little control

But the fucking gun and laying gear are amazing for a ww2 vehicle. That being said...   If you fitted it with a modern 76mm and full stab it'd be a nasty thing.  all you'd need then is a gas turbine. Or a R2800 stuck where the Continental was.

I’d like a CVRT. Tons of them got bought up for Ukraine though and prices will likely never come back down.

Only seen a few for sale, and they tend to be the ambulance or command variants.
Not like it was in the 90's/2000's where you could pick up a Centurion ARV or Chieftain tank for almost nothing.

Maybe 15 years ago I saw an M5 Stuart light tank listed for $30K
Well that’s not too bad for a running tank
Then Inwent to a museum that had a large private armor and militaria collection near Youngstown OH (sold off years ago and all moved)
Well even then when I was fit I wouldn’t have been able to fit my shoulders through the drivers hatch.
At least a Sherman or better yet a Pershing would be needed.   They had a Pershing too.

I’d like to have a DUKW or better yet a LARC
Amphibious would be cool
I remember seeing LARCs when my Dad was stationed at Lewes Beach naval station before he left the navy in the late 1960s.   It was a SOSUS station.   They just seemed huge then.   Saw one in a junkyard in TN a few years ago.  Should’ve made an offer

But I’d be equally happy with a WWII jeep.   Even if it was one of those Philippino jeep in a box you have to assemble.
With a towed 37mm AT gun of course.

I remember someone buying one of these and totally customizing it...it was amazing what they did to it but Im sure they spent a lot doing it but most of the work was done by the buyer himself...it surpassed most RV's I have ever seen, but it still had that rugged 6x6 "I can go anywhere and survive anything look to it" ..... it was awesome...
