What's the significance of that?

We know F16s were scrambled, and at least one plane was shot down. Right?

The "propaganda" from that area (near Chernobyl) blames every health problem imaginable on radiation, in attempts to get foreign aid.

The truth is that they massively under reported the number of immediate deaths in the months following the clean up efforts.  Every person with the exception of one who passed the pump room in unit 4 died.

Almost every person who was ordered out on the roof died for clean up duty died.  Most of the vehicle washing crews died, and any one who handled the piles of clothing that was buried died.

Chernobyl was a very serious disaster, one the Soviets wanted to make go away quietly.

The shoot down was ordered

OR

They lost command and control as a nuclear power

No good options.

IIRC the sale of those were only approved under the agreement they wouldnt be used against India. The entire fiasco around the F16 sale was supposedly to provide a more accurate weapon/platform to attack terrorist forces in Pakistan. How goatfucking dirtbags in tribal regions are going to engaged with AIM-120s is a bit vague.

I thought both sides were openly doing CAPs, bombing runs and generally involved in A2A combat.

So, of course you'd find missiles, right?

The only reason they got it the first time was because we needed them...if we need them again they will get it. Sucks but that's how it goes.  I doubt state actually believed the paks wouldn't use them if they needed to. That's a silly agreement anyway.  The truth is that the US benefits from the conflict, it's a fulcrum.  No different from china using norks.  They play their games...we play ours.

I'm sure state is drafting a sternly worded letter as we speak.

India exposes Pak’s lie about F-16; shows wreckage of AMRAAM missile carried by downed PAF jet

New Delhi: The Indian Armed Forces today presented evidence about Pakistan’s use of F-16 aircraft to target Indian military establishments, exposing the blatant lie of the country which had denied the deployment of any F-16s in the operation and had said that no PAF aircraft downed by the Indian side.
View Quote
In a joint presser of the Army, Navy and Air Force, India presented the wreckage of an AMRAAM missile. Pakistan has only one aircraft which can carry the AMRAAM, which is the F 16  jets, Air Vice Marshall Kapoor explained.
View Quote
By the use of F-16s for intruding in Indian boundaries, Pakistan may have violated a US rule that prevents it from using the US weapon (F 16 jets) without prior permission for carrying out any kind of cross-border incursions. The US weapon was provided to Pakistan for use in Afghan region.

Technically it is FA8675-05-C-0070/P00028. Not all of the missiles procured under FA8675-05-C-0070 went to Pakistan. The 500 in FA8675-05-C-0070/P00028 did go to Pakistan.

Nov 17/06: Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, AZ received a $269.6 million firm-fixed-price contract modification, exercising an option to purchase 500 AIM-120C5 AMRAAM missiles and rehost on behalf of Pakistan (100%). Work will be complete April 2011. The Headquarters Medium Range Missile System Group at Eglin Air Force Base, FL issued the contract (FA8675-05-C-0070/P00028).

OK I see now.

So put 15 warheads into Karachi and Hyderabad and you take out 55% of Pakistan's GDP, 95% of foreign trade, and only kill a few million.

Quite vulnerable... if you took out NYC/Newark and LA you'd only take 15% of our GDP.

You do realize more than 500 have been detonated in open air right? More than 1000 counting underground tests?

And more than a few of those were ten times the yield of those in the paki and idian arsenals.
And yet the ash from one volcano in Greenland shut down air traffic in almost all of Europe.

Imagine the dust and ash cloud from a limited strike by both sides.
This is probably one of the silliest things I've read in GD in a while.

Volcanic ash has unique properties that screw up aircraft, none of which have anything to do with a nuclear exchange.

Quoted:

Most of those test were conducted underground to limit fallout, plus many were done in "clean" areas to limit the same.
"Most" in this context is irrelevant.  Look at the numbers that were not.

Fires would kick more stuff up, but there is only so much contaminant to go around.   Even the nations immediately downwind don't have much to worry about; some agricultural restrictions at worst.
