I mean I get it, they pretty much try to kill anyone that comes near but there hasn’t been any concerted effort to let them know about science and technology.
Is it kind of fucked up that we don’t work to give them the information and let them decide if they want to remain primitive? Basically, we almost treat them like an ant farm. Or some sort of aquarium with a pet project inside. By we I just mean the modern world. Medicine, technology, hell even mosquito nets. I am not sure we are under any sort of obligation. But on the other hand contact is intentionally kept away stopping what would have been a natural introduction to the modern world. ETA: in this thread we learn that even ARFcom can’t get past an initial knee jerk reaction to understand this isn’t a discussion about leaving these people alone. It’s a discussion on a government they know nothing about intentionally keeping them as a pet project. |

We “the modern world” have given all you have listed to numerous peoples and unfortunately with all of that they still behave worse then these tribesman on a remote fucking island. So no, we don’t need to intervene.

ETA: and really it’s not very remote at all which makes it all the more strange that it has remained this way. |

Haven't you heard of the Prime Directive? We can't interfere with their civilization until they discover twerking, usury, and gender transformation therapy.

They want to be left alone. What's your issue with leaving them alone ?
They are keeping themselves in the stone age by killing anyone who lands on the island.
We are not doing it. |
Quoted: I am posing a philosophical question. We don’t know how they would actually react if people weren’t actively kept away. The choice is being made for them. View Quote We do know how they'd react, they tend to kill unauthorized visitors , like that missionary guy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Allen_Chau |

Why should they have the whole island to themselves? Other people should be free to go there. Inclusion and all that shit.

They have formed relationships with anthropologist who would bring them coconuts and other food. They have killed I think two people decades ago, shot another in the leg. The may have killed others but that is the ones that got them their reputation. ETA: and apparently a missionary? I don’t know that one. |

Those 80 or so islanders are so inbred and fucked up there’s no way they can meet modern society.
No. We tried to turn Afghanistan and Iraq into Mayberry RFD. How did that work out?
People just want to be whatever they are. |

Drop off a glass Coke bottle, a Glock 17 with a couple loaded 'stendos, and a bunch of Hustler magazines.
Watch. Learn. |

The first thing the video says is that "they are people who are in voluntary isolation who protect themselves from the outside world with force."
If we are leaving them alone, we are doing what they want us to do. |

If they had anything of value, modern civilization would crush them and take it and put them on food stamps in some liberal Dem welfare program.

Have someone in a "pope mobile" type enclosed vehicle that arrows and stones can't penetrate shoot them with tranquilizer darts and shackle them all.
Then when they are subdued, get some linguistics experts in to get some communication going. Once we can talk to them, we can explain we don't intend to harm them. But the only way that happens is by capturing and rendering them harmless first. That said, it's a very big government kind of thing to do, and I think they should probably just be left alone. Not because they defend themselves against perceived threats, but because there should be a place in the world where everyone can go to be left alone and do whatever the fuck they want. |

Quoted: Those 80 or so islanders are so inbred and fucked up there's no way they can meet modern society. View Quote Not only that, it's doubtful they have been exposed to any modern respiratory diseases, including the flu, COVID, and the common cold. It would be similar to what happened when the American natives encountered smallpox and measles for the first time; 90% of them would die of something in the first year. |

I flew a drone over it and dropped an iPad loaded with prono.
Let’s approach it this way….
Should I be allowed to try to talk to them if I want and get an arrow for it if they choose Or should the Indian government prevent what was a natural evolution for all remaining Stone Age tribes even here in America just because it seems pretty neat to have a pet tribe? |

Send them photo albums of 1st world countries. Have they ever seen a skyscraper?
Don't worry. Their day is coming. One day soon some new fangled type of lidar will find unobtainium there and it will be all over for the natives.
A couple nice kids in white shirts and black ties could show up in those little boats you pedal and share some good news about another testament of Jesus Christ and those spear-chucking arrow-shooting weirdos would be caught up to at least a 1950s cultural level in no time, as long as they didn’t balk at the 10% and no fermented jungle fruit.
Nobody’s stopping them. If they wanted to, they could go ahead and invent the wheel, or a written language, or a concept of morals that prohibited murder, or fire, or I dunno, have their own Bronze Age or Industrial Revolution. I don’t think there’s a massive conspiracy to identify their smartest and eliminate them.
LOL! Great question. Do we leave them to their stone age existence or do the humane thing and bring them modern medicine and nutrition? Of course in doing so we will wreck their society and make turn them into a welfare group?
It is a good ethics question. Valid points all the way around. Personally I am not concerned but the idea of keeping them on display on their island cage does sound entertaining to me. |

Quoted: So the video you posted as reference for your topic is wrong in the first 10 seconds? The first thing the narrator says, is that they want to left the fuck alone and they use force to attempt to ensure it. View Quote I didn’t even watch the video, I just grabbed one so people wouldn’t ask what I was talking about. But yes, they video is wrong as we have never communicated with them beyond some hand gestures and handing them food. |

Obviously the only solution to this island and its inhabitants is to give a few billion to Ukraine.
Leave these people alone. |

There has been a couple ship wrecks there that they stripped for stuff.
At the end of the day…fuck it, I would personally leave them alone as I have no feeling of obligation to bring them to the modern work or introduce them to the gospel. But I am not sure I support a government keeping everyone always either. That’s up to the natives I guess. |
Their actions tell everyone that they want left the hell alone. Why not oblige them? There's likely nothing of great value on the island, and they've been there for a good long time.
