I have a 590 "Marine Coat" or whatever it's called. It's useful enough for the $269 I paid.

Gives me a nice pants bulge when I shoot it.

Mount a rail to the receiver and add a 5mw green laser of your choice. That is when the real fun begins. Immature destructive fun. However the laser is visible in most conditions but full sunshine. Any darkness allows you to see it, and more importantly accurately place slugs from the hip at over 25 yards.

Jetfire was awesome, but also a rebranded Macross toy.

As to the shockwave, its cool enough to own but not as useful as a regular pump action shotgun.  Handy for close encounters

I have two of them.
Did a form1 on the synthetic one and left the hardwood as is.

"Just because you can" can be an awful lot of relatively inexpensive fun.

It won't replace my AR as a home defense gun, but I am convinced I could use it that way if I had to.

Bought one as a range toy last year, but after a few hundred rds downrange it's earned a spot in my 'bump in the night' bedroom arsenal being more maneuverable than a longarm and far more effective than a handgun.
Technique is everything if you want to shoot accurately.

Also the recoil is insane so after about 15 shells it's no fun to shoot.

Yeah, the recoil is surprisingly soft to me. I've shot everything from slugs to Aguila mini shells in mine.

Firing from the hip at steel poppers is insane fun.

Birdshot won't knock them down btw but 00 buckshot will.

Ought.. as in double 00.. not odd. You wouldn’t say 30 “odd” 6 when referring to a .30-06 would you? .. and the shockwave is a regular 12 gauge.. just short barreled and missing a stock.. You need to shoot it a few times, and figure It out, unless your a weekling or elderly the recoil is very manageable even with slugs..it’s just as effective as a stocked shotgun with enough practice..

I posted this in the Shotgun forum;

Personally, I like my 12ga Mossberg Shockwave so much, I have also purchased a Shockwave in .410 as well as a Remington TAC-14 in 12ga too!

I would not recommend it to someone as a FIRST firearm or ONLY firearm that fires shotshells but it does have niche uses for experienced shotgunners (not trying to sound Tier-1, just saying).

I mounted a receiver top rail and TLR-8 ligth/laser combo on my 12ga Mossberg Shockwave. Even with the heaviest 3" Magnum loads it is very controllable shooting from the hip or a "low ready" position. It is Very easy to maneuver in tight spaces. I keep the laser adjusted parallel to the bore axis so I always know the muzzle is pointed ~2" below the projected red dot.

My .410 Shockwave is loaded with #9 shot for use against rats and snakes. It shoots so light that I have no problem using a slightly canted cheek weld in order to line up the receiver flat and front bead for a traditional shotgun sight picture.

My Rem.TAC-14 does NOT have a drilled and tapped receiver top (a shame because it would have been so easy to do at the factory) but I am looking into a replacement front cap with an integrated light/laser + 1 extension. I don't know. As is, it balances very well. I may go the "brace" route to turn it into a more handy 12ga. firearm. I haven't decided yet.

These guns are much more than novelties. With a little thought and practice (and maybe a few add-ons) they can serve and excel in very necessary roles.

The Shockwave/Tac-14 is a niche weapon.
A very small niche, but in its niche it excels.
At 2-10 yards it is an excellent choice if your likely threats are unlikely to have body armor.

Add a good pistol brace and flight control buck and it can be a 2-25 yard gun easily.

Anyone who claims they are useless simply doesn't know how to use one or isn't strong enough to use one properly. Or is criticizing the weapon because it lacks versatility of an AR-15.
The latter is a fair criticism.

Considering you can get them for $269 shipped new, if it's in the $150-$200 range give it a try and see if you find it useful.

It's only useless if you never shot one or practiced with it. It handles much differently than a regular vertical grip.
https://i.imgur.com/0zZ1Vpa.jpg

It's completely manageable even without a brace or stock.

Think of grabbing a birds head grip like a firm hand shake. There is more grip to well, grip.
While the regular POGO is like a soyboy hand shake. Not much to hang onto, and the vertical angle sucks on POGO shotguns.

The downward angle on the birdshead helps.
View Quote
A standard pistol grip allows the recoil to be directly transferred to your hand and wrist. The bird's head allows the recoil to flow through the palm of your hand. I stippled mine because the grip is smooth enough to scooch with each shot.

24" folded.
I'd want to see an ATF letter specific to that particular setup before I got one.

I'm not saying it is a test case to see if the BATF thinks the overall measurement for a non-NFA weapon is with the with the pistol brace folded or extended as the do with folding stocked rifles, but I would not want to find out the hard way.

Shot a buddies and it was neat. Put a high brass #4 I had in my bag and the concussion and fireball was pretty massive. I actually didn't want to shoot the other two I had left.

Shot some Winchester 00 buck through it and it was pretty tame compared to the #4. Didn't have any slugs to try though.  Shot some #8s afterwards and it was a non-event...

This is also a "firearm" and cannot be sold to a person under 21.

The shape of the grip is irrelevant. It's the length that counts.

Some would state you're using the wrong shells.

The firstgen LCP was no fun after 15 rounds, it has notoriously bad recoil and handling, but they are carried regardless. Very few buying Shockwaves plan an afternoon at the trap and skeet range. It would be better to practice at paper plates at 25 feet - the working intent of the gun.

I spotted a breacher pouch for $25 and I know it won't last long. Still researching MDC regs but I don't see it being illegal to hunt deer. The best mod recommended so far is threading it and screwing on a flash hider. Seems to extend reach and accuracy well.

I suspect Mossberg might offer that.

They have some very valid uses and they work well.

Of course. I may be one of the few that get off my ass around here and go shoot and experiment with things but hey.
