There are a lot of guys here who worry a lot about what other people will think of their fashion accessories. The same guys who worry that if they buy the wrong car they'll accidentally fall down face-first on a dick?

The only answer is this.
 The lace around the top helps block UV rays, which is what you seek. Its also professional enough to wear to work, yet casual enough for just a Sunday drive. |

I would recommend a Cov-er All outback linen hat.

My wife bought me this this for when I'm out in the desert playing around, hiking, shooting or working outside. I thought it was dumb and goofy at first but now I love it and never leave home without it and wear it when I'm outside for long periods of time.
I normally wear regular ball caps but this works way better in the sun (especially here in AZ). It's huge too so even on my big ass head it's comfortable. Wife says I look cute in it too.

If you weren't wearing one in the 1960's then just about anything you wear is gonna look a bit odd, unless you're wearing a cowboy hat, which means you're also wearing boots and a heavy belt.
I'll wear the boonie hat if I go hunting or fishing, and a big ass cowboy hat for everything else when I'm not wearing a regular ball cap, but I'm in Texas. People here are starting to get uppity and I've had a couple of people look sideways at the hat. When I was in college (1990's), everybody had a cowboy hat and wearing it every day was commonplace. My ex-wife hated them and I got out of the habit. New wife embraces it, but it's just not an everyday thing for me. |
