Whatever you have to tell yourself. It's a pretty simple morality question.

You should call him a Russian sympathizer! How dare he not jump on your bandwagon of war!  What a fucking clown.

Why are those civilians more important than the ones killed in China, Africa, or anywhere else. Why have you saved all your moral outrage for this event while ignoring the thousands of others? Save me your virtue signaling bullshit.

No, you have a hard time coping with reality. When someone won't join your fantasy you throw a tantrum like a child.

Sorry, no matter how many names you call people you won't change many minds about the U.S. getting into yet another cluster fuck endless war.

I am sure the weapons manufacturers hope we get involved, war is a wonderful money laundering tool for the government.

He has consistently and explicitly said he doesn’t want the US to send troops to Ukraine. I don’t know if you’re ignoring that or worse, can’t make out what he wrote.

No, he has made his position pretty clear and calls anyone who doesn't want to be involved in the fight between two crooked countries a Russian sympathizer.

You seem emotional. You should stop throwing tantrums.

And yes, I've made my position clear. Supply weapons, but no American blood. Yet you keep lying saying I want us to go to war.
I never even called you a Russian sympathiser, yet you've called me a clown and told me to shove two countries up my ass.

You should try having a logical debate without all the emotion clouding your reasoning.

You should ask Jefferson Davis about that.

The biggest stumbling block to England and France recognizing the CSA and openly supporting it was the moral hazard of slavery and the South's refusal to abandon it.

The whole "the moral high ground doesn't matter" argument exists only in vacuum.   We live in the real world full of other people.   Which is precisely why the Russian government has invested heavily in propaganda to convince the rest of the world not to care what happens to Ukraine because of "X, Y, or Z" reason.

Great point. It's also the reason Russia has locked down information so hard. It also needs to convince her own people that they are morally superior....many know they are not though.
Many reasons being on the right side of morality is correct.

If Russia acted morally even like...half the time...most of the world wouldn't hate them right now.

Correct, as I said many times, I don't care about two corrupt countries fighting on the other side of the world any more than I care about the crips and the Bloods fighting each other in their hood.

What I do care about is my country getting into yet another endless war that we only make worse, spending $trillions of dollars we don't have. You know, like we have been doing my entire lifetime.

Repeating the same flawed analogy doesn't make it stink any less.

This isn't another endless war.   This is part of the same cold war with Russia we've had since the 50s.    You may not want to fight it.    But the Russians do.

Has it always been a symbol of post soviet Russia?

Ok, I looked it up, and this is what the internets said:  He said this represents 77 years since Victory Day and he described the letter as "one of the symbols of the special military operation to defend the Donbas," using the Kremlin-approved expression for the war in Ukraine.

So Russian guy: is that accurate?   Is that all it is?

I lit-rally don't know what the origin of "Z" is. I've heard "west", but have no idea

But it doesn't take a russophile to observe that some people are bathing in western/ukranian? propaganda

Por ejemplo, putin has proven himself gay, but the western blue check class would root for some peasant's eyes being ripped out in HD, if
properly packaged in media. Slava ukrayeena!

Maybe I'm just joining late in "the conversation"

No, it really symbolizes the region a unit has come from. That's how it started.
I've also heard alternative explanations, or maybe concurrent explanations that Z is “for the victory”(?? ??????). And V is “power is in truth” (???? ? ??????)
The important part though I think is now it's morphed though in Russia as a symbol of support for the war in Ukraine. It's the symbol used in all their pro war propaganda and such.
So to see a poster here say he's using it to thumb his nose at the MSM is laughable, as the meaning now is support for the invasion.

So between the above and Russia literally acting like fascists, it's sort of become the new swastika.

Interestingly, Z in Russian is ? and V is ?. They're using an English Z and V.

Can you name a just War in the last half of a century where we got involved, got out in 4 years or less and the country was doing much better years down the road because of us getting involved?

Do you consider Afganastan a great success?

Sigh.
I'm not advocating we get involved in the war. Really? We're still on this?

You still haven't answered my question.

Just to be clear, the reality is that Putin wants the Baltic states which would trigger article 5. Degrading his ability now to wage war by providing weapons to Ukrainians helps to prevent that from happening and thus preventing the United States from being involved in the war later.
So I am actually anti-war and you are advocating for war later.

Why are you advocating for us to get involved in another endless war?

Funding the Afghanis to fight the Soviets worked pretty well.  It helped draw the war out into a long term black eye that they never really recovered from.

Coincidentally, that's kind of what the Russian's current folly in Ukraine is shaping up to be.   Just alot bloodier and even less affordable for them.

Either spend that money now or spend far more down the road.

The idea of American isolationism being a viable strategy for international relations was rendered obsolete during WWII.  Possibly could argue it was on the way out post WWI.

In any case, this is 2022.  What you want is impossible.

Don't you get that providing means for ukr to stop them now it's a win for the US? With no boots on deck....

So what NATO country do you think Russia is going to invade? Seems like Putin is smart enough to know that invading a NATO country would be a different game.

Either spend that money now or spend far more down the road.

The idea of American isolationism being a viable strategy for international relations was rendered obsolete during WWII.  Possibly could argue it was on the way out post WWI.

In any case, this is 2022.  What you want is impossible.

"But what about [blank].  You clearly don't care about Ukraine if you don't care about [blank]"

Not really. We left isolationism to meddle in Chinese/Japanese intrigue which was strangely similar to what’s happening today.

Then I went to Iraq...twice.  Same with Afghanistan.

Theory met reality and reality wasn't like the books and powerpoints.  It smelled a lot worse too and justice wasn't what decided who lived and died.

War sounds awesome when you are 25.  I thought it was the best thing...ever.  Looking back, it was pointless and full of needless human suffering that would not have happened if we had not been there.  It was not just for the literal truckloads of dead people that are still dead, no matter how much pretty paper we wrap our involvement in.

War and just are not words that go together.  Not in reality.  Justice and truth are the first real casualties of war.

Reclaim former territory? Putin has been warning about NATO expansion for years and years. Yet the pro war assholes just kept on. They went too far and are now trying to blame anyone not on board with the war machine for not going all in. Fuck them. The death of Ukrainian people is their fault.

Russia’s invasion is ugly but they are by far the least evil state in all of this. I don’t want that. I want the US to be the righteous country it once was. But here we are.

There is no sufficient reason for NATO to exist after the dissolution of the USSR other than to continue conflict.

LOL...

Russia, after the collapse of the "Soviet Union", remains the neighborhood bully who feels that "Might makes Right" to their various neighbors. A unstable violent drunk who may go off on those who "don't respect it" or want to see somebody else who would treat them better.

NATO was & has remained a DEFENSIVE Association of Nations formed to prevent the smaller nations of Europe from ending up as Finland or Poland did in 1939.

The wisdom of such is painfully obvious to Europe today in the war in Ukraine.

As for "Russia being the 'Least Evil State' "...

Fuck Putin, Fuck Russia & Fuck Russian Simps making excuses for Russia attacking Ukraine.

So, now bitching about extra taxes=I love Russia!?

How different is that from the Lefties accusing us of hating the environment because we don't support the Green New Deal and the tax dollars it would waste?

Here's my radical thought: How about we quit spending taxpayer dollars like they grow on trees and stop being the world's piggy bank. We have plenty of money to defeat the Russians if we stop wasting it on people/countries that hate us.

Democrats will never stop wasting money on people/countries that hate us. Especially the ones that live in the US.

That was the excuse, but it truly retarded the military self sufficiency of the European states, principally Germany, and created an export market for the US's military industrial complex.

Whatever you have to tell yourself. It's a pretty simple morality question.

Great point. It's also the reason Russia has locked down information so hard. It also needs to convince her own people that they are morally superior....many know they are not though.
Many reasons being on the right side of morality is correct.

If Russia acted morally even like...half the time...most of the world wouldn't hate them right now.

Your point is irrelevant. You may be attacked, and you have the right to defend your life. Being morally superior to your attacker is a distinction of no consequence. I’m not saying that you aren’t morally superior. I’m saying that IT DOESN’T MATTER.

No, the reality is we do get into endless wars, we are broke, and when we get involved in foreign wars we have a long history of making them worse. You may not like those facts or find them inconvenient, but they are the facts nonetheless.

Can you name a just War in the last half of a century where we got involved, got out in 4 years or less and the country was doing much better years down the road because of us getting involved?

Do you consider Afganastan a great success?

What has been amazing to me is the amount of drama and purse swinging done on the russo/ukraine war thread, principally by those who are apparently perched and ready to swoop down and attack any ideas that they disagree with.

When someone wanders into the thread and has a different opinion or not as educated on the latest intel...a horde of seemingly over caffeinated armchair quarterbacks swoop down for an attach and scream in all caps at the loser who dares to say that Zelensky may not be another George Washington.

I suppose that is GD....but those who compare the thread to the COVID thread are right on.   I am pleased to see the Russians get the ass handed to them by Ukraine, but I am not in a rage about it, not do I feel the need to call others who disagree "so called Americans".    There is a bigger picture and the threat at home is real.   So many people on GD and the Democrats and Bolton would have us sending our sons and grandsons with boots on the ground to UKR.

My Dad fought in Korea, I served during the cold war and my son survived Helmand as a grunt.   I am no Putin fan, but I am as much of an American than OP or any other here.

He can shove both Ukraine and Russia up his ass.

So is the blatant misrepresentation of his posts simply a side effect of poor reading comprehension, or is it just that you know if you actually acknowledge he doesn’t want us directly involved in the fighting that you won’t have much of an argument left?

Because as it stands you are arguing with yourself against a position he hasn’t taken.

Russia takes Crimea (no problem)
Russia makes Belorus a puppet state (no problem)
Russia makes Hungary a puppet state (no problem)
Russia tries to annex Ukraine, threatens Poland, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia (no problem)

See a trend?

No, assessment based on the policies enacted towards that country since 1991 and the writings, history and reporting of and about those policy advisors and their actors.
