I bought a 65-4 the other day. Looking forward to seeing what the actual condition is. It's odd how many people have bought these and 64s, only to find that the trigger sucks. You always hear that the old, pre-lock/MIM guns were so smooth and I would think that everyone would have a duty pistol worked over. I've heard that most police depts had a local smith that cleaned their guns up back in the day.

Digging these wheel guns!
Anyone have suggestions for faux pearl/MOP (or real) grips? Looking for quality grips for a 3" nickel Detective Special, 2nd gen full grip.
Been in contact with Eagle grips and they will do the antique look or the whiter ones.

Put a grip adapter on my Schofield.  I imagine it's similar to what a Schofield would've been like in the 1920s or 1930s, with some practical parts updates.

In honor of revolver month….

I’m trying to go through my collection and shoot my firearms that I’ve never shot.  Today was 4” 38 Special day……

Smith 10-7 and a Colt Diamondback:

Shot a couple hundred of my reloads.  4.1gr of HP-38 under an Acme 125gr coated TC.

The Diamondback sights were WAY off.  Horizontal was about dead on but the elevation was to the moon.  I’ve got it dialed in at 15 yards now.  Both were very smooth and overall very nice to shoot.  I wanted to not like the Diamondback but it’s pretty freaking accurate.  I still can’t warm up to the stacking DA pull though.  I just like the Smith DA pull much better.

Picked up my 65-4 today and shot about 20rds through it before failure, lol. It was a police trade in from guns.com, so I knew it was a crap shoot. The cylinder release popped off and luckily landed on the bench. I pulled out my tool kit to screw it back on, but the threads are trashed. Looks like I'll be ordering a new bolt... The good news is that this pistol is a freaking laser! I was more than happy with the action and accuracy.

My buddy said that Smith would probably send me a bolt. I was under the impression that they no longer messed with older guns. Any options aside from Numrich?

How did I fix this holster? So incredibly loose
Kirkpatrick leather (the OEM, purchased in 2022) won’t respond to my emails
I think having a piece of leather sewn on the inside where the blue line shows just to absorb some of that volume in there. Maybe 1” tall leather all the way belt loop to belt loop. I don’t need to be able to do American Ninja Warrior comps but maybe just hold it upside down and it not fall out.

Hopeless or doable? Who would I contact?

A minor repair and my 65-4 is back in business. She's homely, but is easily the most accurate pistol I own. Can't wait til my bullet order comes in and I can stockpile some ammo. I can't decide whether I want to bead blast it and call it quits, or chop/slab the barrel and install a dovetail front sight. The action is tight as new and the trigger is excellent as is.

If you shorten or slabside the bbl, you will alter the harmonics thereof, which may impact the accuracy.

That's a fear I have. If ain't broke.... I definitely want to improve the front sight picture though. Maybe I should play with fingernail polish and see what works best before permanently altering the gun.

I'll start doing that about the same time I begin cerakoting blued, prelock guns...

I mean, 5 minutes ago you were going to chop the bbl or slab side it, or both.

Beauty is obviously subjective. I can appreciate more traditional mods, but cerakote looks terrible on revolvers.

Forgot to take the pin out until I'd made a full rotation.  Spun it back, punch out the pin, and pulled the barrel.  Fortunately the frame is fine, barrel took all of the damage.

Surprisingly it turned pretty easy, even with the pin in there.

I also fitted the new trigger, double action works again.

What makes the pin issue even worse, is I have a 66 frame that a gun store smith tried removing the barrel from with the pin still in place and he completely wrecked the frame.  It was so bad that they gave it to me for the cost of shipping.  So I have a reminder of what not to do on hand, and I still did it.
