Why do we hate Charter Arms? They seem Taurus priced and never discussed
You guys seem to love 2.5"-3" 357s I see these guns as range toys, target guns. Not carry pieces so utmost reliability isn't a huge concern No 3" 357 in my safe and half of S&W money. The high polish appeals to me, nothing like that currently; maybe add wood combat grips Attached File @jpk @03rn @compuvette @any one else I respect with an opinion Save my pennies for a S&W? |

View Quote Charter makes a lot of aluminum framed guns, very light, suitable for wadcutters. My boy has their left-handed model. Their steel frames are likely a lot more shootable, their most famous being their Bulldog Pug .44 SPL, which was Fatlwishes' house gun. They have 9x19mm and .45 ACP guns that doon't use moon-clips, and several differently colored anodized frames. |

Dan Wesson .357 Maximum, 8". Bought it new in 1988. .357 Max was at one point, the darling of the silhouette crowd. Ammo is, sadly, almost unobtanium now. |

I love the fact that Ruger and DW were so involved with them and were listening to Elgin Gates' (Mr. "how about we just add a 3/10 inch to every magnum case?") crazy ideas. |

View Quote I like the charters. Only have 2 pathfinder 22 so far. Attached File I got this one because my MIL didn't like my S&W 60LS. With 38 special it was just too much for her. But she liked the short barrel and my 4" charter was "cowboy gun" looking to her so she didn't want that. Just like anything you get, test it to trust it. This one was bought over the internet new from a gun shop up north that let everyone finger bang and dry fire it. The chambers were peened from the firing pin so bad that it deformed the chambers wouldn't eject the empties if it even fired them. I messaged charter about it and sent it in to them and even though it wasn't really their problem (I myself would have considered it abuse) they fixed it up and sent it back with no questions. So they're ok in my book. Attached File My 4" has been flawless and is great for introducing new shooters. There are some differences between the two that I learned from a thread just last year I think. My 2" is a light wt aluminum and the 4" is stainless. Aside from that what I didn't notice is the light wt ones have a plastic lower (trigger gaurd and grip frame piece) and the other is stainless) had them both but never stood out to me. |

If you ever luck into one, only shoot heavy bullets from the maximum/supermag brass. People trying to hit rifle velocities with light bullets is what caused premature failure of the top strap and forcing cones. They were meant to launch heavy for caliber bullets at decent speed, to knock down silhouettes better than a .357 mag. |
