I completely agree with him on this. I work with a bunch of them and you would be surprised at how little real world knowledge a fresh out of college engineer has. It is downright scary when you have to explain what and engine is or the fact that you cannot connect to the ecm on a vehicle without first having the key in the on position. M favorite was that the engineer was complaining that the AC in the truck didn't work. I did, you just have to be running the engine first smart one.

I mean I not saying they don't exist but when when Boomers say it like that, it sounds like their implying that kids these days are to just lazy to put away the bong and go down the street to a shop and make 30 an hour working 7-3 with just a cup of clean piss and a good attitude.

winner winner.

these high paying blue collar jobs are the rights version of the wage gap, they don't actually exist but damn if we don't pretend like they do.

no one is going to pay anyone near that amount ever.

the only way to make that is to be a bitch for several years save up to buy the assets to go out on your own.

Vice president of a company that does $450 million a year. We have a permanent bill board next to the interstate hiring welders. We start "tackers" at $20/hour and go up to $55/hour for those than can pass a drug test, weld in all posisitions and a variety of processes, willing to work with a variety of high nickel alloys (or inconel/monel etc..we get NO that's hard to weld a lot)and pass their test/x-ray/etc... on a regular basis. 1 out of 4 applicants will flunk a drug test and then go from there. No travel etc...

It's "hot" in the shop even tho they get off every Friday, we pay 100% of insurance and give profit sharing that will average about 8% of their gross.

It's hard to find people who will work, but it's "hot" in the shop. Gee I dunno, the other VP was a welder and then moved to a welding inspector and now VP. But it's HOT in the shop.

Old men shaking fists at clouds again?

I saw a lot of Millennials working for Elon Musk and cheering when the rocket they designed and built returned to a landing pad at sea.

No matter the generation, only a small percentage of people do great things, or become wealthy and powerful. The majority of us exist to support those people in some way or another.

"That’s what I spoke to Congress about. Just in manufacturing, we’re almost a million people short. These are jobs that are $50,000 a year and up. "

I hear this line all the time.

Where are these 1000000 $50K+ jobs?

If they were that numerous and that in demand then you would figure there would be TV and bill board adds.

Machine operator wanted: 5 yrs experience minimum: certifications for Haas, Okuma, Mori Seiki and manual machines to include Bridgeport-style mills and engine lathes; Must be able to do machine setup and fixturing.

$12/hr, no overtime, no benefits.

That's frighteningly accurate.  Did you pull that from Indeed.com?

I was on the hunt for a job recently.

Shit talking millennials is retarded when I literally have written code for automating processes that remove people from their job.  I'm not even a great example of someone's ability to do this.

Previous generations spent decades working in simple minded ways while one new person can replace their job in less than a year.

Where is this?

Phoenix?

No, but I know who you are talking about. Well known in the industry, as a shit place to work and a lot of their office people flee all across the rest of the country.
