Just came from the liquor store. I saw the only Johnny Walker they didn't keep out on the shelf was the blue label for $224. I've seen people over on the Rolex forum show pics of their watches next to a bottle or 20 of the Blue Label. I just picked up a bottle Jack Daniels last month which is the first whiskey I've ever bought. Always been a rum and tequila drinker. But I like JD. Is there a noticeable difference between other whiskeys and the blue label? If so, what is it?
EDIT: I see it's $130-$150 online....can I just mail order it cheaper? Thanks! |

No. Not IMO.
I actually like green or gold more, and in that price range there better choices. Johnnie walker has good marketing. |
|
Nope. It was great when you could get it for $100, but at $224, I’d say it’s overpriced.
|
|
No blended scotch is worth that.
Single malt 18 or 20-something, yes. TC |
|
Not worth it - check out Jefferson’s very small batch bourbon if you want good bourbon for about 30 bucks a bottle.

Sure..............if you're into pissing your money away............Literally

It's delicious, but it's not that much better than anything else. Johnny Walker Blue Label is more of a fashion statement, like Pappy's or driving a Range Rover. If you like Scotch, you can get as good or better for much cheaper.
|
|
1. Its fashionable to signal wealth with the recognized expensive scotch.
2. Its fashionable to act like blue label is barely better than a plastic bottle gut rot. 3. The truth is in between, it's a damn good scotch but you are paying a large label premium, fuck the single malt or nothing snobs they can't actually taste test single vs blend. 4. If you need an Instagram picture or a impress a friend gift it's great. If you want the best Scotch you can get in that price range there is better or you could get 4 bottles of something else just as good. Personally for value and a solid bet on taste I just go Japanese and have never been dissapointed. |
|
Yeah, it's worth that. You can also store it in a $500 Yeti.
Booze is for getting drunk, but folks can make a status symbol out of anything. |
|
no it's not, black is the best deal of the Johnny line everything else is way over priced for what u get.

I'm not really a spirits drinker but my wife's cousin broke out a bottle of Blue Label for his daughter's wedding and it was SMOOTH and very easy to drink.
I regularly buy $5 bottles (12 oz) of beer so if I was into scotch, Blue Label might be worth it to me. |

|
I’m not a scotch drinker, but I have a hard time believing that it is better than a comparably priced single malt.

If you want a cheaper alternative, try dewars 12.... also a blend, about $30 a bottle, and while not as good as blue label, a MUCH better value...... |

I don’t remember the last time I drank some JW...I might have woke up with poopy pants though...

If you enjoy Jack Daniels, I would try the Single Barrel. I prefer Evan Williams Green label.....inexpensive, but for what ever reason I enjoy it the most.

Sure......if you like supporting SJW causes.

I had to put my bottles in the gun safe after I caught my brother mixing it with soda, he found my stash in the back of the cabinet and unpacked the bottle from the box.
There was a bottle of Maker's in the front row, along with Jack, Beam, etc, so it's not like I was out of options. Another time, I brought a bottle to my wedding for him and other groomsman to toast before the ceremony, told my brother to go get glasses, expecting him to go down to the bar. Nope, dumbass went to his room and came back with the plastic cups from the bathroom. I can't take him anywhere. I'll have a glass whenever a birth, death, etc, happens in the family, but I haven't had to buy a new bottle in over a decade. Kharn |

My brother bought a bottle as a retirement gift to himself. A few of us got together and had a few fingers, we all agreed that it wasn’t noticeably better than even some of the other Johnny Walker brands.
But I like my bottles in the $25-$40 range so take it as you will. |
|
Lol not even close.
I'll take a bottle of Caol Ila 12 or a Lavagulin 16 over JW blue all day. |
|
People who drink Johnny Blue don’t know anything about scotch but are trying to act like they do.
Life is too short to drink blended scotch. Johnny Black is better and handles are $50. Contrary to popular belief, the best scotches are not old ones. Some of the best scotch at ANY price is in the $60-100 range. |
|
I picked up a bottle when I was in iraq in '04 for about 1/3 of that. I wasn't impressed and it wasn't worth the price then. It's a hard pass.
For $200+ i'd be looking at some really crazy single malts or try to find some form of Van Winkle line of whiskeys. |
|
Far better single malts out there for half the price, third the price even.

This is good stuff here.

BLUE LABEL...
Is very smooth compared to the other JW's. People here on ARF make fun of me because I love drinking blue label even though it is a blended Scotch. Most people on ARF prefer single. I love my blue label and I try to drink at least two fingers every day. As a matter of fact I received a nice shiny 750ml bottle two days ago for Father's Day. Here in Miami on average it's about $180-$200. In my opinion it is well worth it. |

In the same way a Rolex Sub is the world’s best $2000 dive watch,
It is the world’s best $75 bottle of blended scotch. Both have masterfully built, fostered, and maintained a luxury reputation and desirability to reach a price point and reputation above and beyond how good they are. Sort of like if the Camaro SS, Mustang GT, or Challenger SRT were seen as 120k cars. |

You need to stop buying Jack Daniels. Right click and save this chart. Edumacate yourself. Zero in on your preferred taste and not waste money on Scotch that you later find out you don't like. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/29155/Scotch_chart-981514.jpg View Quote |

Go to a bar and try it side by side with your current preferred and see what you think. There’sall Sorts of Hugh end shit out there, but you need to put it in context.
I had a sip of that King Louis cognac that’s $$$$ per bottle. It was interesting, and hands down the best Cognac I’ve had in the last 20 years. Because it’s the only cognac I’ve had in the last 20 years. With no context, all I can say is that it was interesting. Maybe I can’t tell the difference between that and $30 cognac. so Yeah, either buy a small bottle, or order a pour at a bar and do a side by side. Hell, might be fun to get all the color labels together and see what the difference is. |

View Quote Some can't get past the well Dewars white label stigma or the fact that it's a reasonably priced blended scotch. Bang for your buck, the Dewars 12 is good. It makes a good gift to those who aren't big scotch people, it's good with ice, soda, or neat, and the bank is happy. Still ARF will eye roll that Dewars is spoken of... |
