This thing has the sight radius of a Glock 17, grip length of a Glock 19, the capacity of a Ruger-57, the width of a single-stack, the weight of an airweight j-frame, the recoil of a .22lr, and arguably the lethality of older 9mm loads (judging by the performance in the FBI cartridge testing a few years back)

I had been so excited about the lightweight I didn't notice how incredibly thin it also is.

0.937" is wild. That's like a Kahr single stack 9mm thickness.

Yeah, the width and weight make the decision to go with a fixed internal magazine actually seem pretty innovative. This thing gives you an internal capacity of a Kahr+2 extra mags.

Given they are made by Keltec, I'd bet serious money on plastic.

Not that that's a bad thing.  The euro 5.56 plastic stripped clips are easier to use than the US ones.

KelTec has a double stack 9mm with removable mags that's even thinner at .875".

The old K31 loaders are what the PR57 clips reminded me of, and they were some sort of resin-impregnated cardboard-like material with a little bit of metal at one end

I know a couple guys trying to load for it, it's apparently a PITA.
Not an issue at all. So long as you don't tumble the lacquer off the cases it's just like any other bottle necked cartridge. The large amount of shoulder movement from the blowback action means they'll get a neck separation sooner than your usual 5.56 case, but I buy factory ammo, reload twice, and use them in a PSA Rock for the fourth firing and don't pick up the cases.

It’s a small case with a small powder charge. Being off 2/10th in a 5.56 can be an issue when you’re at the top end just the same.

As for being difficult to load, I’ll tell my XL650 next time I use it for 5.7. I use an RCBS manual powder thrower to charge them with a powder through die as it’s accurate enough to keep me within 1/10th of a grain.

Attached File

I don’t keep a dedicated toolhead for it, as it’s just the powder and seating dies and I keep them at the correct height with lock rings.

I just wish it wasn’t hamstrung, by this non-detachable internal magazine bullshit. Ultimately it probably doesn’t matter, but it’s just stupid because it’s pointless.

It's a gun that weights 18oz or so loaded with 20+1 of a very capable round, and is thinner than many single-stack guns. That's a pretty good tradeoff in exchange for losing the magazine. Hell, that's more ammo in the gun than I used to have in my carry gun plus 2 extra mags.

Sir, please don't shoot your wife w/ a caliber less than 9mm.  If she notices that you actually shot her w/ a 5.7, or even a .32, your life will be a living hell after that.

I really think this is a gun designed by a Swedish ex-pat for Swedish ex-pats - and anyone else who has a taste for the unusual.  I don't really see it as a breakout in the lady gun space.

Once they publish the manual, there will be a lot of questions answered.

On 1 April, we should all call Kel-Tec CS and ask for PR57 magazines.  Say there wasn't one in the box.

I was corrected a page or two back - the Portland ordnance forbids loaded magazines AND clips, so the Kel-Tec's not gonna work for Portland.  We need hoppers.

I like the little "fully loaded" nub, so you know when the magazine is full without having to count rounds. I also like that the 21st round just fits in the magazine, so no need to risk pinching fingers trying to hold the +1 round in place while you drop the slide.

It's not that it can't, it's that you probably have to mount it to the dustcover, and probably want to use a .30" caliber suppressor.
