I figure they've sent Jordan around to tell everyone 'Don't vote for me'. We'll try this a 3rd time and see what happens.

IMHO, this proves what a shitty Leader KM is.

Being loyal has its advantages as does being disloyal have its perils.  The shrill 5 cast their die, let’s see how it plays out.  We squeaked out a majority this last election this is an abysmal start to things.

There isn't a problem... Unless the Dems are able to get enough RINOs to join them for a "unity" candidate before the GOP gets its shit together. Which could definitely happen.

What exactly happened here? There seemed to be a tentative deal worked out, then it fell apart at the last second.

Did they agree on terms, and then McCarthy came at the last minute with the proposed House rules, and it didn't reflect negotiations?

There was never a deal. KM just thought they would fold. This morning, he told them he would punish them if they didn't support him. That worked out well.

That alone should reflect why he shouldn't be speaker.

Agreed, I bet he isn't near as quick to use the stick on the democrats.

LOL

Republican Congressman Threatens to Work With Democrats to Elect House Speaker if Hardliners Sink McCarthy

Moderate Republicans are willing to work with Democrats to get McCarthy elected as Speaker of the House. McCarthy, who was endorsed by Trump for reelection and for the House Speakership.

Trump Endorses Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker: 'He Deserves the Shot'

Trump calls on his supporters to stand down on McCarthy opposition

Trump is backing the "Swamp" to run the House and his most traditionally loyal, like Uber-MAGA Rep. Matt Gaetz is opposing McCarthy to be House Speaker. That tells you something.

When the loudest MAGA lawmakers in Congress oppose McCarthy and Trump backs McCarthy, and Moderate Republicans are willing to work with Democrats to get McCarthy in as House Speaker. That tells you all you need to know.

Trump is McCarthy and Trump is grifting you.

I wonder if Jordan knew about Gaetz plan to nominate him?  I think Jordan would easily be the most effective leader since Newt.

He is much further right than anyone in forever, and appears to be pretty effective.  He carries much less baggage than the MTG, Gaetz, etc. I think he is absolutely the best we can hope for.

The question is does someone else (Jordan) gain momentum? If he does, more could continue to flip each round. Many are unwilling to vote for another candidate until they think that person can win. They aren't risking their commitee assignments.

If Jordan loses votes, the others will eventually have to fall in line under McCarthy or they risk tanking the Republican controlled House.  They have done a damn good job so far of challenging the RINOS.  But, as much of a puke that McCarthy is, he is better than the alternative.

Washington Post is kind of keeping track, though not in a cohesive manner.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/01/03/speaker-house-vote-mccarthy-new-congress/

On the third ballot, Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Josh Brecheen (R-Okla.) and Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) again voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) as speaker.
They are part of the 19 Republicans who have voted against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in previous rounds.

Reps. Michael Cloud (R-Tex.). Eli Crane (R-Ariz.) and Andrew S. Clyde (R-Ga.) also voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) as speaker again.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) lost a supporter.

Rep. Byron L. Donalds (R-Fla.) flipped his vote, picking Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) over McCarthy on the third ballot.

Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Bob Good (R-Va.), Paul A. Gosar (R-Ariz.), and Andy Harris (R-Md.) again voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

Jordan has 11 votes with voting still underway.

"Because I'm interested in governing, McCarthy," Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) said as he cast his vote on the third ballot. Some GOP members aren't hiding how mad they are at Rep. Kevin McCarthy's opponents.

That's how I see it. Historically that's how the Left operates...unions, socialists, Democrats (guess I'm being redundant). They're totalitarians and this is how they eventually come to power. With the assistance of the corrupt and/or deep state Republicans.

The Democrats and the establishment media & tech companies slipped up in 2016 by believing their own BS. They quickly learned a lesson. They will never let it happen again.
Americans are losing their freedom and prosperity rapidly.

Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), Mary E. Miller (R-Ill.), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) and Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) again voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
Jordan now has 16 votes and counting.
Democrats, meanwhile, are prefacing their votes for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) with words like "unity" and "united."

A House Republican who supports Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for speaker texted that the plan is to keep going until the California Republican is elected. "Both sides are dug in," the member wrote.

"We haven't heard anything new from McCarthy so I guess we'll just keep doing this," Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) told The Washington Post after the third vote, predicting the number of votes against McCarthy will only grow.

Asked if there's anything McCarthy could still do to win over her support, she said "We need the tools and the procedure and the leadership to be able to make fundamental change   to fix our country and get it back on track."
