Traffic stop of blatantly suspicious vehicle and occupants.
Driver has no ID's. Run all his bullshit info. No joy. I know he is lying. Some stuff, new App, take his pic, run app, score some sheriff dept booking photos. It's him. Warrants, high score on being a shit bag, make arrest. |
|
If I tell you I'm "Rando McRando" and my birthday is obviously 20 years too young for me, what do you do?
Obviously you try to get the real info, but if I insist I'm Mr. McRando and you can't find me in your computer, what do you do? Would you eventually release me if I hadn't otherwise committed an arrestable offense? |

Kinda cool, kinda scary.
That said, I am gonna guess that shitbag would have been taking a ride regardless (no license, failure to prove identity) or some such. |

Did you detain him to long? Was he traveling as a boat captain and not driving a car and therefore not subject to United States law? Damn road pirates! :). Technology has done some pretty cool stuff for you guys, just another tool int he tool bag I guess. Stay safe. |

Is this available for iOS so you can run the background on questionable women you encounter, before bringing them home? Asking for a friend.

So does facial trump finger prints? You had cause to arrest him per what you said even without the facial.

ETA: Impound your ride, etc...since you don't have a DL |

I wonder at what point this system will be so prolific that cops just dispatch from the station whenever they get a "hit" on city cams

Facial recognition is nothing new.
They have used it since the 2001 Superbowl .....pre 9/11 no less. https://www.wired.com/2001/02/call-it-super-bowl-face-scan-i/ I imagine since the quality of pics/video have gotten really good, the software being used has got to be getting better too. Soon we will have drones that regularly patrol the skies doing nothing but finding and tracking fugitives. _ |

Kind of a dumb name for a facial recognition app. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

So, in this day and age LE has portable hardware/software that can positively ID a
bad guy within minutes, but when they stop and arrest an innocent person on an outstanding warrant because they had the same personal info as the wanted person, or victim of ID theft, that person can spend days in jail until the confusion is cleared up. How does that work? If the name, DOB, SSN, etc returns a hit on a wanted person, but the facial recognition software comes back with someone different, what do you do? |

Good pro active LE. Dumbasses in San Francisco just passed a policy on prohibiting technology involving facial recognition.
Be safe. |

I wish we just had good ole fashioned police work and vigilante justice when that fails.

Have used them numerous times to get ID on dead bodies, to ID incoherent drunks, false names to LEO, you name it. Lost count of how many warrants I've caught with them... |

In 10 years, you won't be able to walk in public in any major city without having your face scanned.

Maybe so but it's really helpful. For example if some guy says he's not a cop, you don't know if he's telling the truth or if he's a lying sack of manure. With this app, you can run his picture and if you get a hit from LE Only you know he's LE. View Quote |
