That's how they do it here in the UAE.  They wont pinch you quickly, but they will pinch you eventually. Facial recognition, plate readers....EVERYWHERE.  Excuse me habbibbi,  you not pay etisalat phone bill.  Off to jail for 45 days until judge decides to hear your case, inshallah.

ICP makeup.

IIRC the way they draw the face on, facial recognition has a hard time with it.

Of course the downside is that you’ll look like a juggalo. ?? ??

On a serious note, I'm serious about civil liberties and think a lot of shit has gone too far but a driver with no ID at a traffic stop has already broken a law. I'm ok with facial rec being run on him/her to verify identify.

Now if it's used on the passengers because they don't have ID, just because they don't have ID, I'd have a problem with that. I'd also have a problem with something like mandatory fingerprinting and running prints, but using facial rec to match against warrants seems like a good compromise.

OP, can you speak about what databases and sources the app pulls from? Only active warrants or all mugshots?

Yeah.... I'm no fan of facial recognition. just one more step toward a police state.

I recently read an article about ways of checking people for being predisposed to committing crime... We are willfully giving up what our forefathers created for us.

Both sides.

The Progs. wish to shred the constitution and favor communism. While the right seems to want Orwellian security.

Sorry Bama, I know your job is hard. And I am not getting down on you per say, but use of this tech, IMO, spits in the face of our founders. I couldn't use it out of principle.

You did read the part where the driver had already broken the law, correct? Driving without proof of license is certainly probable cause for checking the identity of said driver to see if they are committing other crimes, such as driving on a suspended or revoked license, or in this case active warrants.

Depends on the reason for contact. If I have a legal reason to ask for your ID and you fail or refuse to provide it you can go to jail until you’re identified. Fingerprints would be the easiest way that we would get your ID.

Usually most people give in once they realize we have legal means to ask for ID and jail isn’t worth it or they give up because they are going to jail anyway on the warrants they are trying to hide from.

I know for a fact that you can get a viable iris scan off of a dead guy as long as he's only been dead for about an hour. Sometimes you have to put a little water on the eyeball though.

The Army has a bulky I mean ruggedized print and iris scanner with built in database. I'd assume that someone has built a more ergonomic version that can Bluetooth link to a cop cars computer.

Definitely do have portable ones. They aren’t cheap and a lot of places don’t have them.

Can’t force fingerprints anymore than you can force them to ID themselves. But a trip to jail and charges that require fingerprints prior to release will get those fingerprints anyway ordered by statute or the judge.

Never forgot your wallet eh? Sorry, I've been through it. Stopped, given shit because an officer thought I wasn't me when I gave my ID number.  I got lucky, a second officer showed up and knew me from my work at the time.

I don't care if you feel my panties are bunched up... 15 years ago most of you would have bitch about active plate scanning...  now you welcome it.  Give it time... facial scanning of everyone around a car will become the norm in 5 to 10 years... public domain and all that shit.

Well, you must provide proof of insurance if they can’t find it in the state insurance data base. No insurance, no operate the vehicle on a public road way. By by car. $400 to $500 to get it out of the impound lot, not including your missing tools, personal effects, spare tire or any auto parts the good public serpents need.

Technology is changing rapidly and prices are way down. The SEEK family of devices are expensive but other solutions are becoming viable. Sociometrics is a company that markets a software application ("slapshot") that essentially turns any smart phone into a biometric collection device. It's relatively cheap and effective, accessing the AFIS DB.  Every officer is a collector.
