Quoted: I’d be great at it. {knocks on door}: “Hey man, I shouldn’t be here & it’s totally illegal, but I got bills to pay ya heard me? Anyways, we found your name on this list that says you bought a hunk of metal. I’m supposed to steal it from you, but I swore an oath to defend the Constitution so I’m gonna pass on that. Why don’t you just tell me to fuck off now & I’ll check this box to say I stopped by.” View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I would hate to be working for a government agency that has decided to take lawmaking authority upon itself, and then sends workers out to enforce their made up "laws". I mean, I guess most people here don't know that government agencies DO have authority to make rules in order to better define and enforce the actual laws, and they have to be congruent, so there is room for argument. Which makes the entire thing a confrontation waiting to happen, right on the front end, if it's abused. Especially when they start flip-flopping based on the political orientation of who is in power. That is fucked. That's why we have lawyers, and lawyers are why Shakespeare said "kill all the lawyers". :-( With all that said............all the extra comments to the agents are stupid. This sounds like assholes colliding to me. I’d be great at it. {knocks on door}: “Hey man, I shouldn’t be here & it’s totally illegal, but I got bills to pay ya heard me? Quoted: A knock and talk is very common during the initial investigative phase. We are not privy to all the information that led these SAs to pay a visit to this individual, but it is reasonable to assume they had information this man possibly had committed a crime, or was likely to commit a crime. The SAs are duty-bound to enforce the promulgated laws. Enforcement of firearms laws often leads to placing dangerous people behind bars, and enhancing public safety. View Quote Dave_A is back |

The supposed agent was an asswipe after being told by the citizen he won’t answer any questions and asked if they have a warrant. That’s all you need to know. I would have just said “no you can’t finish, no warrant, leave or you’re trespassing”, then the call goes to my county sheriff that I’m being harassed by men claiming to be atf agents.

I think the video of the local cops kicking that ATF agents ass and tazing him needs to be tacked on GD homepage for eternity. That was epic and needs to be repeated by every county deputy/Sheriff's anytime any of those fucks go 'knocking and talking' on any citizens door.

If you watch some of the 1st amendment auditors, you will learn that you don’t have to do anything to help their investigation. Starting with answering the door. After that, ask to see the warrant. No warrant, tell them to leave. Other than that, no answering questions, and no IDing.

Quoted: Gun laws on the whole has increased public safety. The research is very clear on this. In fact, its damn well irrefutable. View Quote Bwa hahaha hahaha! Bullshit. Laws do not stop criminality, they merely define behavior as criminal, and create penalties for those caught exhibiting said behavior. Congress, states and cities have created 23,000 gun laws since 1931. The United States' 1931 population was 124 million, and we had 11,160 murders and manslaughters, 7,533 committed with firearms. The United States' 2019 population was 328 million, and we had 13,927 homicides, 10,258 via firearms. Over the course of 90 years we increased population by 204 million, citizens built or purchased over 250,000,000 additional firearms, yet America experienced only 2,725 additional annual homicides in 2019 than we did in 1931. Where is this epidemic of "gun" violence? Per population growth alone, we should expect around 28,000 murders. Based on the increase in firearms, the prevailing media would claim we should expect to see massive increases in murder figures. Yet the murder rate has plummeted. The guns in law abiding hands are NOT a problem; they are employed in defensive means to prevent a crime against persons more than 5 times as often as guns in the hands of criminals are used to perpetuate a crime. Quoted: Best thing he could have done is cooperate. Now he is on another list. Im sure his wife, kids and dog will be thrilled. View Quote Cooperate? Why the hell would anyone think that is a good approach? The only reason law enforcement show up at your door is when they either think you have committed a crime, are about to commit a crime, or know something about a crime that was committed. In every case, the 'best thing he could have done' is say nothing and call a lawyer. |

Not a glowie, but a troll methinks. Agents of the ATF who operate on gun forums know all the tricks to blend in and wouldn’t out themselves so obviously. There was one a few years ago on GlockTalk that PMd me about wanting to sell some very questionable AR lower parts kits that while “legal” to own could potentially jam someone up with constructive intent. I reported him to the mods and as it turned out, this likely agent had been making the rounds with other members and gun forums. He would also start threads asking for instructions on how to modify certain firearms illegally “for informational purposes only” this dude was promptly banned after a few weeks of that.
