Wow, I wish I could see that every day while commuting on the freeway.
Santa Fe 3751 (Los Angeles-San Bernardino) Feat. High Speed Pace! Santa Fe 3751 - Steam Train in the middle of the Freeway |

Its being pushed?
I see no steam coming from anything in the drive. |

Excited train guy, New York! |

Which 2020 Presidential candidate does that train remind you of?

Quoted: There is steam, you can see the wavy air at times. Steam is hot air, it's see through. If you mean there is no black smoke, it's because it is at speed and burning efficiently. Locomotives produce black smoke under acceleration and heavy load. Also at shows, often on purpose. The black smoke is unburned or partially combusted fuel. No smoke is good. 900,000 tons of steel.
Man, that's a lot of heavy metal parts reciprocating rapidly. |

The level of engineering on those old beasts blows my mind. I saw 4014 in person and I’ll never forget the sound and feel in the air standing next to it.

Nifty!
I would race the train every day! “It’s when you stop racing trains, life is over.” ~ Jeremy Clarkson~ |

View Quote why does it seem like trains are a thing that people aren't allowed to be interested in without being made fun of? my wife's cousin is married to a railroad engineer. I started asking him some questions about rail automation because I work in the maritime industry and deal with a lot of automation stuff. he started chucking about me being a "foamer" -- ok, sorry for asking you questions about your job? there isn't a derogatory term for people who are interested in ships and I don't make fun of people when they ask questions about them |

Quoted: The second video has better viewing angles, with smoke and steam, and explains everything. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Its being pushed? No steam visible in any of the valving near the connecting rods. And fuel oil isn't that clean. I'd be willing to wager they're just burning enough fuel to keep the boiler pressurized for the whistle, and the diesel is providing most, if not all, of the tractive effort. |

There's something about them that brings about a level of autism beyond other hobbies. |

I guess better than it would be in AZ. Just so awesome. |

Quoted: I can imagine the traffic backup all those foamers caused. View Quote I thought it might have been cool to try and pace the Big Boy 4014 until I saw videos of its first excursion. And then when I went to see it when it came through Wisconsin I got to see first hand the precession of cars and how many had crumpled bumpers and grills and tailgates. |

Any little homeless figures painted on it yet?
Amtrak "pedestrian strike" stops everything until the coroner clears it. Joy. Monty Python-Bring out your dead! |

Diesel powered steam locomotive, lame.
Big Steam needs Big Coal |

Freeway backed up for miles because Foamers pacing a train for 100 miles as they dribble precum in their man panties.
If ever there were a justified reason for road rage that would be it. |

That's the Biggest Black Choo I've ever seen and I like it, I like it.

That was Southern Pacific's "State Street" line that went from L.A. to San Bernardino.
Phil Anschutz sold it to Metrolink, we used to use it to bypass traffic at the yard in L.A. and then cross back over out by El Monte. |
