this is not a bad idea. We pay farmers subsidies NOT to grow food, and we pay welfare recipients to buy food. Pay the farmers to grow food, and use it for the welfare needs. it's how the mormon church does food welfare, and it works really well. View Quote I fully believe that it was worth it and don't regret my time spent there helping. |

Hell, lets simplify it even further. We already have the infrastructure in place to manufacture & supply MRE's to soldiers in the field and to disaster victims, even halal MRE's. Use the current military infrastructure to store and move them to key bases. Then truck them from the bases to Amazon distribution centers and let Amazon distribute them to the end recipients. MRE's are plenty good enough for our soldiers, and come with heaters so even the poorest of the poor without electricity or homeless on the street will be able to eat a hot meal.

So here's a question. I've seen this more than once when I'm at the grocery store. A welfare lady will have the food on the conveyor belt at the checkout line but broken out into different piles of food and they will have a check on top of each pile. I hope I explained that well enough. Anyone have any idea what's going on there? View Quote |

The socialists will never let it pass. It is what Welfare/SNAP should be, IMHO. Staples to keep those in need healthy and fed, no pop, chips, candy bars, etc.
It is a helping hand, not a luxury! A wise man said something about if you make poor uncomfortable.... |

We'll let Walmart handle logistics and distribution. They in turn can sub contract out local distribution to mom & pop corner stores to serve the transportationally disadvantaged. Amazon can handle home delivery for the handicapped. Private/Public partnerships baby! Get your daily calorie allowance here. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Make government cheese great again !! (Makes awesome grilled cheese sammitches BTW). 5-10 dollars for 5 pound on the black "no pun intended" market. Damn I miss government cheese Walmart stock does not approve this message. Let them eat beans Private/Public partnerships baby! Get your daily calorie allowance here. Walmart could easily use this as an opportunity to provide that service for the application of the topic at hand. |

I see a business opportunity. The same companies that now benefit can continue to do so, but on a wholesale level. The boxes need to be manufactured and delivered to a packing facility. They then need to be filled and distributed. To be a recipient, one must fill X number of boxes per week/month/quarter. All of this activity needs to be managed. Contracts would need to be let and the work organized. It could be a win for everybody involved except the taxpayers that are robbed in order to fund this legalized crime. View Quote |

Food Stamps should have been administered like WIC (Women Infants and Children) all along. With WIC, the mother receives vouchers every few months which have VERY detailed lists of what she may get with them. Hell, kids age 2 and up can't even get whole milk, thy have to get skim, 1 1/2%, or a couple of other healthy options. Everything available through WIC is the healthiest options, such as whole wheat or the equivalent. View Quote |

The government cheese had a higher butter fat content. That’s why it tastes and melted better.

This would let us get more benefit from the farm subsidies that are being paid, too.
And it opens up new job opportunities. I kinda want to be a cheese truck tail gunner. |

This is a neat idea.
But it's just another feint in 4d chess. |

the local Popeyes tried out a new sandwich about a decade ago. They were handing them out for $1 a piece. Not surprisingly they ran out of the sandwiches in about an hour. There was a line of cars backed up about a 1/4 of a mile. A store rep, a counter clerk, was sent out to walk the row of cars and let everyone know the bad news. Several baby momma went completely ballistic, the major complaint was "What I gonna do tonight? How I gonna feed mah babies? " such is the mind of a slacker, such is the mind of a taker.

I didn't think you could buy those on food stamps but you could still use your welfare check that's also tied to the same EBT card as the "stamps". View Quote Anyhoo, on the card were two sections, $300/mo "foodstamps", then $200/mo in general assistance that you could spend anywhere on just about anything, which is the part that was being used in the strip clubs post Katrina. |

Something needs to change!!!
I have noticed something in the inner-city ministry that I pastor. Everyone (and I mean it is everyone) that says that they get SNAP openly talks of selling them. It is a matter of life for them. They will discuss selling them to pay rent and to pay bills. They also openly speak selling them to buy things like TVs, phones, shoes, everything you can imagine. The flip side is that the elderly and disable talk of buying them to but food cheap(30-50% on the dollar). And yes, I adamantly preach and teach against these crimes. |

Great, now Papa Murphy's is gonna go bankrupt.
You ever notice how some of Papa Murphy's are oddly placed in the hood? It's because Papa Murphy's pizza qualifies for EBT because it's uncooked, like a frozen pizza from the grocery store. I always thought that was a brilliant business model. Their pizza is great and cheap too. |
