Watched about 45 minutes of the hateful eight last night... horrible View Quote The very meaning of life might be revealed in the last 45 seconds of that piece of shit but, fuck if I'll ever find out. And I've tried, like 5 fucking times. Just a shit movie. |

Quoted: Slum Dog Millionaire: I never saw it, and still haven’t, and until the awards I had never even heard of it, and that’s the problem, if it was so good, why was it unknown? This is not the only movie like this, I’m just using this one as an example. I see this as an indicator of an “art film” that is popular with hipsters at film festivals, and that is all, no general appeal. View Quote OP's answer: "Slum dog Millionaire must have been terrible because it wasn't popular. Haven't seen it though, lol!" FWIW I haven't seen it, but this logic is just |

I'm not super critical of movies usually. I go to be entertained and have pretty low expectations. That said, I remember when Superbad came out and everyone loved it....it's mediocre at best for me.
I'm going to catch all kinds of hell for this, but Caddyshack has a few good parts in it and that's about it. Rodney Dangerfield drives me up the wall for some reason. I'll also add that I don't really have an issue with a minor love story sub plot in war movies (Enemy at the Gates' love story was super minor) the reason being when you deploy in real life, the relationships back home play a HUGE role in the deployed man's mindset. It's not unrealistic to have it in a movie IMO. |

I don't know, Platoon is overrated, but it's entertaining "It ain't dere, it's dear, and Sarah ain't got no two r's King, Damn you dumb!" "That's all right, she know what I mean, she don't read to good no how!" View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Platoon Just rewatched it this weekend and while a lot of faces became big stars, it tried to hard to be artsy while showing the atrocities and hardships of Vietnam. I hope I never see it again "It ain't dere, it's dear, and Sarah ain't got no two r's King, Damn you dumb!" "That's all right, she know what I mean, she don't read to good no how!" |

Every stupid ass comic book super hero movie...
and Heath Ledger lived about year too long to save humanity from the suckfest that was his performance as the joker |

Saving Private Ryan. Tons of good true stories Spielberg could have told about World War Two and he makes up a stupid one. Other than the opening scene with the Normandy landings a lot of the action scenes aren't even that great and kind of ridiculous. "Hey, let's charge head on at this machine gun nest for no reason."

What's the purpose of movie-making? Is it to create art? No. It's to make money for the people who produce and finance it. Therefore, by that measurement, any movie that's popular is therefore a good movie.
If you're referring to artist merit, then that's another argument. Even then, people can have very different opinions. Just read the user reviews on IMDB for almost any movie. |

Every one of the Star Trek movies, including the reboots, with the exception of The Wrath of Khan

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Frankenstein's Bride Attack of the Clones. That one sucks hard. |

Most of them. This is going to be a long thread. A much shorter list would be good movies.

Losing money on crap is simply written off against the profits from ones that make money, so it's basically a no-lose.

I saw Slum Dog Millionaire in the theaters, pretty sure it was before any awards. I was floored by the visuals, and glad they don’t have smell-o-vision yet. Great movie.
Overrated shit? Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was a sub par example of the genre, overhyped by a fawning western press who hadn’t never seen better examples. Also, another vote for Avatar. Impressive technical achievement, sure - but derivative and cliche storyline and overall shit movie. |

This. Avatar comes to mind as does The Force Awakens. I haven't seen The Last Jedi and probably won't bother while it's in theatres. I've read a bunch of spoilers and it sounds bad. You wouldn't think it would be hard to make a universally acclaimed Star Wars movie, but instead they insist on making divisive crap in an attempt to appeal to people who don't even care about Star Wars in the first place. The Deer Hunter. Art house shit that some people were duped into believing was a good war movie, or just a good movie in general. Absolutely suck fest. The same basic story could be told if the town experienced an earthquake or severe storm. The war was just the vehicle to put people through various extreme situations. |
