Yeah, sometimes batteries swell up like that.

The next step is known as "venting."

If you bought it at Advance Auto they should have your purchase in their computer. I just replaced a battery and the gal told me to keep the receipt but if it faded she could look it up.
They also sent me an email acknowledging the return of the old battery for a core credit. I saved it to remind me when I bought it.

Tell me if i am wrong, but on the charging systen test printout. no load is 15v and load is 14.9v. Battery should test around 12.7v running, under throttle around 14.7v. Did they test this in your vehicle?

Not a fan of Optima.  I've replaced probably 50+ due to premature failure (former yacht co. service manager).

When it finally lets you down replace it with Odyssey.

Damn, all the batteries my Dad used on his irrigation motors (605's) he put two red top Optimas on.  I had a bad battery on my pickup one day when I was out at the farm and I stole one of the Optimas off of the well motor so I could get home that day.  It was three years old then and lasted another ten.  I always thought Optimas were the best you could get.  I have not bought one since '01 so I didn't know they had moved to Mexico.

There's at least one here in town, I had them price tires for me a month or two ago.

Based on the price they gave me, I'm a bit surprised they are still open...

I've used Optima batteries exclusively since 1992 and they are still excellent. I however have never had that happen but I'm positive Optima will take care of it without issue.

Optimas are shit batteries wrapped in marketing. I've had a couple and needless to say...not impressed

I was in line at oreillys last week and a guy brought in a red top with damage just like OP's and then swapped it out for another one

That is correct, they no longer sell the re-branded Odyssey batteries, known as the Die Hard Platinum. They stopped selling the only thing that was worth ever going to Sears for.

Where did you buy it?   As a side note I scan in all my thermal receipts that are for expensive stuff because they fade over time.  Some places can look up receipts from the card you used to purchase the item with if one was used.

Yep, scan all the things.

Just bought a starter with a lifetime warranty and when the guy at the counter handed me the receipt he said "Make sure you scan it, our thermal paper fades fast!"

Your Honor...I rest my case.

(sorry, it was a trick question...) Sears stopped selling the DH/P's about a year ago.

Toss it and get a Deka Intimidator AGM. Mine always last 6 to 7 years, Made in USA by East Penn company. I suspect they mfr a lot of re-branded batteries.
Oh and check the alternator for overcharge or it could ruin your next battery.

HaHaHaHaHa!  That's a pretty good joke, thanks!

Wait, were you serious?  Are you OptimaJim?  the guy that was always in here blaming all their battery failures on their customers?

Optimas suck and have for over half a decade.  Optima won't do shit for the OP.

No longer made, and I wish that is what I had bought instead of the Gold which is garbage:

They wouldn't replace it the last time I tried since it passed with their crappy tester.  Even when new, it still struggled to start my car.  I think my current one has a shorted cell since I can't get it to charge above 11V, but it still puts out enough current to turn over the motor.z
