II assume not... I have never seen that gun at the range telling me that Terrorist Rifles should be banned. OP, take that thing out to distance... I have seen many 1 MOA rifles shoot half that past 300 yards.... Some bullets do not shoot as well at 100 as they do when they go to "sleep" at distance. Physics doesn't change with distance until you get to quantum scales. When you see better groups at 500yds than 100yds as measured in MOA, you're not seeing the shooter do a better job, not the rifle. Nah, it is well known in long range shooting circles that some bullets go to sleep after 300 yards or better, and are more accurate at distance than close range. My experience is long for caliber bullets, such as vld's, will do this. The theory is that they settle down with less "wobble" at distance. Back in the early days of military rifle competition, the British were very fond of their Enflield rifles in .303 British. They swore that their bullets "settled down" at longer ranges and shot more accurately at long ranges. At first they were laughed at and some folks said it was impossible for a bullet to shoot better at long ranges. But experience demonstrated that the Brits were right. |

No offense OP but you got raped. You have a stock 700 with a bunch of farkles on it. This is a 5 shot group at 100 yards. The object next to it is a dime. This is what you should be seeing out of a $3000 rifle. http://www.extremefirepower.com/images/rstarget.jpg My recommendation is to send it to a good builder and have them true the action, put a Kreiger barrel on it chambered with a "175 Match" reamer at a thousandth over minimum. Cut the barrel to 24 inches and put all the crap back on. Is the stock bedded or did your buddy just slap it on? So you shot that group 5 years ago? Nice! Nice gun OP, reload and practice. I am looking into a .308 also! |
|
OP i think its a sweet stick man. some practice and load development and maybe some marksmanship work those will be close to touching.. Quoted: nice looking gun - keep shooting the groups should get a little smaller why a muzzle break...... 308's not a kicker and everyone on the line is going to hate you i was thinking the same thing. remove the break and put on a nice target crown will make all the difference, and possible increase your consistency. especially when loads are being worked. ARFCOM FUCK YOUR QUOTE BOXES>>> RIGHT IN THE FUCKIN ASS.. YOU HEAR ME GOAT? FAWWWWWWWWWWWWWK |

My groups didn't change one bit after I installed pws prc brake on my .308 bolt gun. It's a lot louder but easier to get back on target. And I don't give a shit about other people on the line next to me. Most people at the range are rude and inconsiderate anyway. |

If I can get consistent 5 shot .75 groups I will be happy. I will learn and shoot the hell out of it from 500-1000 yards. If I wear it out, or decide it is holding me back, I will get the action trued and get a new barrel. |

precision shooting tales are worse than fish tales. Some of us provided proof... I've seen guys poke holes in targets with scoring gauges before and try to tell the world they are outshooting X and X rifle. Not saying you are. I'm saying that the OP doesn't even know his rifle or what rounds to use yet. He is not yet shooting to it's or his potential with that gun. |

You know nothing about the rifle, the ammo used, the conditions it was shot in, or the experience of the the shooter. Um... two decades of rifle building experience. On top of that's a stock Remington barreled action with a stock Remington profile barrel. I see guys all the time throwing down set ups like this and they get angry when they don't perform. They throw the money into crap they don't need. Get a good action, good barrel, solid stock and good glass. That is that basis for a precision long range rifle. So, that's how I can fucking make a recommendation. So, you're guessing then. Thanks for the guess. PS, You are telling him to spend more money, on another rifle, instead of telling him to shoot the barrel out of this one, while learning good techniques. It may be a better shooter than is show from that single group, it might not be. But after a few hundred rounds, he'll know what accuracy is possible with it, then he can just shoot it. A .3MOA rifle in the hands of a beginner who can barely manage to hold .75MOA doesn't really help. But no, "you got raped, I'm a better builder" is your idea of help. |

A half inch group at 100 yards isn't anything to sneer at. That to me is indicative of adequate accuracy from the rifle itself as well as adequate marksmanship by the shooter. Sure, there are great shooters out there who can do much better. But in reality, those who can do so are probably relatively few in number. For someone that isn't a trained sniper or experienced competition shooter, that is an excellent group. And any rifle/user combo that can shoot half inch size groups at 100 yards can most certainly pose a lethal threat against man size targets out to 700 or even 800 yards. So while the op may not possess Carlos Hathcock type skills, for an average rifleman (which most of us are), I'd say that's pretty good shooting. This. Keep shooting OP. Nice rig you got there. No Shit ! Nice set up OP! Foot note: I didn't realize so many snotty Tier 1 internet Monday morning quarter back condescending rifle experts existed in GD much less the world |
Wish I would have worn my garden boots into this thread, there's so much bull shit stacked about, it's hard to breath.
People calling BS on the price just by looks? You don't have a clue as to what machine work may have been done. Calling a .5 moa group at 100 yards poor is showing some serious ignorance, too. OP, shooting 100 is not indicative of what the rifle is capable of. The bullet is still settling in at that distance. I've seen more than one rifle/load combo shoot the same size groups at 100 as 200 and only slightly larger at 300. |

if that is the 3 shot group at 100, you need to invest in a decent barrel That is a half inch. What should it be at 100 yards? One hole with no overlap? it is a .308 at 100 yards, you should be able to shoot a better group than that blindfolded and offhand. and yes, at that distance with a semi decent shooter behind it, it should make one jagged hole. You should be able to have them touching. This is a 5 shot group with my 308AR at 100 yards (and I am certainly no expert) Just need some more practice… https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ES8zX-zDyt0/UY0TtW35iUI/AAAAAAAABr4/pTrZ_KbQQu8/w1106-h737-no/_W0A7189-1.JPG This group is larger than the OP's. Just filled in with a couple extra holes in the middle. |

SKG is correct. The physics is not changing. As the bullet travels down the bbl, the center of gravity is forced to go round the center of axis. As the bullet exits teh bbl, it starts trying to correct that making the COG the axis. This creates a wobble. Depending on the bullets, load and rifle, it can take further than 100 yards for the bullet to "settle down". |
