For clarity:

If I send you the packet, ignore the EDM requirement, Dennis has a contractor lined-up to do the EDM work.

I ran across this article a couple of days ago:  https://arstechnica.com/science/2021/10/nasa-wants-to-buy-sls-rockets-at-half-price-fly-them-into-the-2050s/

Fly them for the next 30 years?

If a post on arfcom lead to hardware on the ISS this thread would be instantly legendary.

Waiting to watch SpaceX just do it, even if it's just a landing and return with no eva.

I wish.  Congress will fuck this pig as long as they can.  If I were a guessing man, I'd guess deep down,  NASA would like to cut this albatross loose and focus on payload and science.  Boeing should be cut loose.  Sink or swim.

It's particularly sad when you consider that the first Artemis-1 launch was supposed to be in 2017.

I was in a systems engineering group at Marshall during the shuttle transition to ares/constellation when ares 1-x flew in 2009. In 2017 I was in a SLS lab helping prepare for green run...which didn't happen until Jan 2021.

NASA's doing a lot of the work themselves too. That's part of the problem. You basically have two parallel bureaucracies schedule slipping off each other for perpetuity.

That’s probably why it’s always preferable to lie like musk and say “by the end of this month” so the entire schedule starts from a “soon as possible” posture.

SpaceX sends people into orbit regularly now.  REAL orbit, not just a dick ride barely above the clouds.

When was the last time NASA had that capability?

Wildly optimistic (and totally unrealistic) promises about schedules and deadlines is definitely something Musk has in common with Old Space ... but at least he is burning his own money, and not the taxpayer's.

I think Elon time is way way different than old space and NASA.

Elon is fucking crazy.

November 2019 we will be orbital with starship in 6 months! Lol.

Humans on mars in 2024!! Lol.

But it most likely is a positive goal and aligns the entire company to moving as fast as possible. Unlike old space and nasa. Who plan things 7 years out and 5 years in say its 4 years out.

Technically now since NASA paid and helped developer the crew dragon.

I get your point. I’m very pro SpaceX and musk.
