Thanks.

I know the cost of the RS25 and the supposed cost of raptor.

But the disposable SH booster on Starship? Where is that from.?

I don't think they will do an expendable booster, but an expendable upper stage, fully refueled in EEO could throw a stupid amount of payload deep in or out of the solar system

Just imagine how much you could throw if you got a Super Heavy into orbit, refueled it, then mated it with a refueled Starship

Or have a bunch of expendable Starship upper stages stack on top of each other in orbit to form a new staged rocket in EEO...

It's really mind boggling how much flexibility this architecture offers compared to the Shuttle.... Theoretically.

For the tenth time. Those RS-25s should be in a museum!

I can hear ya Indiana Jones!

Think of all the F1s that went in the water. Friggin things were hand made.
The stuff on display at the visitors center for Stennis are in pretty bad shape sitting outside. I was up there in Nov. Hope they can restore them soon. The last (I think) Saturn V 1st stage built and an F1 engine out in the weather

I think there was over 40 RS-25s made. More than a few on display already.

I think KSC visitors center has at least 1 on display at the Atlantis exhibit and there used to be another at the LC39 observation gantry (I don't know if it is still there, been a while).

Space Center Houston has 1 on display.

US Space & Rocket in Huntsville has 1 on display.

Smithsonian Air and Space has 1 on display also.

Depending on the level of corruption, the result could also be a successful protest, and the SpaceX contract gets pulled and is instead given to either of the two overpriced clown designs from Blue Origin/OldSpace or Dynetics.  That would genuinely be a terrible outcome.

I mean, if either of the two other bidders get extra money, it’s “only” billions of taxpayer money that gets flushed down the toilet.  But if SpaceX loses the contract, that could ultimately kill the program, because it will become such a money pit that it’s tempting for a President to just cancel it in order to virtue signal how the money could be “better spent” on bullshit social program.

How about the other space vendors?

Starliner?

SLS? How many years is SLS behind? Also how much has SLS development cost?

the starship FCC filing is vague, it word the booster return such that it could be a ditch or a landing.

Musk has oil rigs being stripped to use presumably as landing/ launch pads.

NO one knows their timeline though, photos i have seen have mostly been them cutting rig gear off.

Even if the Super Heavy does a zero velocity water landing they may be able to refurb the Raptors and avionics from it. Or at least salvage parts from them.

Doesn't he have to build and test a launch platform first ?

SLS was supposed to launch in 2016.

While not Artemis related but still space stuff, since it was mentioned. Last month a friend said Starliner was ready to go again and the next day local news said launch is in July. Haven't seen it anywhere else but haven't really looked either.

Looks like a lot of traffic at ISS during that time frame but I'm hoping they can squeeze in the flight and it goes well.

It is. My understanding at the time and still now is that's the cause of slip in schedule this year. That idiot berger or whatever his name is made some speculation on avionics problems when it was announced. Typical journalism throwing some shit on the wall to see if anyone will hang their hat on it. Got a few retards to get out their war drums.

Barely.

That’s FH in a fully expendable config. And that may never happen with such a tiny payload volume.

Also when a Super Heavy class includes 60t FH and SLS 95t, Starship 100-150ton, and Saturn V 140ton maybe we need another class.

Yeahh no, spacex’s super heavy booster isn’t going to be putting starship into orbit by the end of July,

The only way Elon can beat SLS is if there’s another large delay by nasa.

i can see solo booster test flights by then, probably with less engines since no starship Ontop.

Now if SLS’s first test flight’s a mass simulator then starship could beat SLS in first commercial payload to orbit. You can bet musk’s more than willing to throw in a load of star link satellites as soon as he thinks he can.

SLS is going to have a narrow window of viability as a heavy lift platform, (a few years tops) until repeated flights and eventual crew certification on starship super heavy blows them out of the vacuum on price per pound by about three orders of magnitude.
