The original final fantasy was pretty rough.
Some of the dungeons were damn near impossible without a guide. I used to map them by hand |

I remember there was a point in the Ikari Warriors game that turned you into a ghost mid-level. You couldn’t walk past anything and the game froze. Even now the memories haunt me. I’d like to buy a plane ticket to Japan and slap the game designer’s face.
ETA: found a video of it. Blue guy is the ghost and red guy can’t move forward. The only option is to get blown up. Months of my life wasted… ![]() Video Game Glitches 873 & 874: Ikari Warriors (NES) - 1st & 2nd glitch (1st level, cut-down) |

Quoted: ^ This and Blaster Master View Quote Blaster Master was the worst with the damn required gun upgrades to beat any boss after stage two. You have to have a maxed out gun to stand a chance but it’s knocked if you take one hit. Then it’s two hours backtracking trying to find all the gun powerups throughout the stage. It’s an awesome game but the designers were straight up masochists. |

Ninja Gaiden was like my "Dark Souls" as a kid.. beating those felt good. Blaster Master also took me forever to finish, I loved that game. Never did finish TMNT, fuck that game.

Top Gun was fantastic. Beat it eventually. But yea, it was a bitch.
Castlevania...never could beat. Paper Boy sucked too. |

Quoted: Quoted: Oh you've spent hours getting to the last level? Shame if you had to start all over again with no continues. My friends and I were playing Doom on the SNES, which like many games of that era had no save option or passwords. You had to play start to finish every time. I think we had just gotten the minigun when the screen went black. Sega's marketing of the Genesis centered on "bringing the arcade experience home." Thankfully, the SNES went all in on JRPGs like FFIII, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and A Link to the Past. Sega seemed like it was predominantly fighting, sports, and driving games, which does fit the "arcade" theme you mentioned. |

Buy the Pandora G box. It has wireless old school NES controllers and PlayStation controllers. It has literally more than a thousand games including Contra, excite bike, and most of the games mentioned above. Console us about 4”x4”x2” and I just Velcro it to the top of my wall mounted tv.

Quoted: The Lion King. No joke, never beat it. edit SNES View Quote I've beaten it on the genesis but not the SNES. I know the SNES was a bit more difficult. I remember my friends and I all competing and helping each other work through that game. Good stuff. Lots of nes games on my list of never beaten. Ghouls and ghosts can lick my balls. I think there's an angry video game nerd video that about sums up my feelings on that one. Same with uhhh L&C? Or something. Was a game where you can surf or skate and either is very difficult. I don't think I even came close to beating that one. I still wonder how my parents and grandparents picked which games to get. There was probably some little asshole at the store advising them to purchase the most difficult games and passing them off as the best lol. I'll never forget getting Mario 3. What a fantastic game. |
