So I have an old "acquaintance" who  went nuts in the last few years and moved hard left. He sends me gems like this that just leave me speechless. Is there a  good response to this?
Something well-thought out.  Or concise.
He has gotten so bad that I think he is a liability at this point.
He lives in one of the most free states  but if he lived in some paradise like Chicago he would probably enroll as a local volunteer, turning people in for "illegal guns".

Quote:

In accordance to their stated beliefs and viewpoints, gun right advocates do not care how many children die from mass-killings (shootings), the number is "irrelevant".  One or a dozen or a thousand is not a relevant number to their position about their "rights". Nor is it relevant to their position and ideas on what can or should be done. This lack of comprehension speaks volumes about their integrity, responsibility and ethics (they don't have any). You are not dealing with a reasonable person, you are dealing with someone who is severely brainwashed and indoctrinated to such a degree, that "gun ownership" and "gun rights" are "sacred" (more so then the right to life of these children). But we both know this is not just about children, mass shootings occur at (and by) all ages. So it's really the right to life of "other people" that is the real issue here. Gun right advocates don't actually believe that other people have the same rights to life as they claim. No number of dead and injured and slaughtered people will persuade them that there is a severe gun control problem in this county. They deflect with claims of mental illness, "godlessness" and other such deflections without addressing the underlying issue of gun access. Not all mass shooters are "crazy" or even depressed, or on drugs, or even "godless". These claims are just deflections and are used to refuse to address the real issues.
Ultimately, I have come to view such people as "irresponsible" and this irresponsibility is exhibited throughout their lives (not just on guns, but on most topics, including politics, religion, character, integrity and so on). They do not want to be held accountable for ANYTHING. If anyone is hurt by their actions (or their inactions), they don't care, as their "rights" triumph over everything and everyone else. To me, they are selfish assholes to the nth degree. Only concerned about themselves and nobody else. They will band together like a pack of rabid dogs and viciously attack anyone that dares point out their irresponsibility (or actions). America is full of such people, selfish assholes to the nth degree.
Their interpretations of their rights, the US Constitution and even how a modern society should function is seriously warped. But they've managed to gain a huge audience with a large megaphone and will endlessly repeat their insipid claims while the bodies stack up higher and higher. They don't care. They've never cared. They lack humanity, compassion, comprehension and understanding, listening instead to talking points and rabid preachers spewing endless lies. I want nothing to do with any of them, they are already anamatha and given over to reprobate minds. They are so deluded that they think they are on God's side, but according to the scriptures they claim to venerate, God hates them all, as he should. So do I - they are alien in their thinking and understanding and refuse to address their own critical faults.

I quit selling at gun shows years ago. I did hundreds of shows and was always subjected to their rabid ideologies, bogus claims and endless rants. Frankly, most of these people are fucking crazy, but it's now a normalized type of crazy. Everyone accepts this as if this is "normal" now, but it's not. It's anything but normal. They want a world that they cannot have, that will not work and will only result in disaster if they were given all that they want. No accountability, no responsibility, no restrictions, no laws that would impinge upon their imagined "freedoms". Guns play a huge (oversized) role in this fantasy world of theirs (which is dumb as fuck). The United States is now reaping the whirlwind of this non-accountability and they don't like it. But a reckoning has to happen (eventually) otherwise, we just might as well call every square inch of the country a "free fire zone".
But this isn't just about guns (obviously) but about what kind of "America" they want (or imagine, because it's mostly bullshit imagination). Personally, I think they would prefer the Dark Ages of the past where only the landed and the rich had any rights (and the Church) and they could run rampant on everyone else howsoever they wanted. Nobody else would have any rights, votes, or even personal property. The current abortion rage is a part of this insistence of dragging the country backwards. It's absolutely insane.

It would take hundreds of thousand of school shootings to approach the death toll of disarmed populaces.

Look, anyone who starts off trying to save lives by taking guns away from citizens is a lunatic.

The ones we need to take the guns away from are the governments. Governments have killed more people on the right handful of days than every murder ever committed since Cain and Able. The reason we Americans are armed is to balance out a government that is out-of-control, a government the looks an awful lot like our current situation. We have suspect borders, suspect elections, suspect federal police, all pointing to a massively corrupt government that is out looking for more.

Do you really trust American politicians to not exploit the civilian population?

It could read 100% in reverse if a pro-gun / conservative / freedom-minded person wrote about an anti-gun / liberal / socialist-minded person.

i.e., Your "rights" (in parentheses to show I don't believe they really are rights) won't work, you're insane, you're brainwashed, it's too late to speak truth to the other side / they're a lost cause, my way is the simple truth / you're stupid to think your way would work better.

There's no middle ground, there are sides. He's on the other side. You're not going to to convince him otherwise with some forwarded article. Trying to win over people takes care, personal concern, and truth proved to someone over time in a way they'll hear and understand it. Not yelling your side's talking point or banging someone over the head with just the right news piece. If you're concerned about someone that has a different view than yours, then talk with people, not at people. It might not work, but debate just to add gas to fire sure won't.

Tell your buddy he is right that the numbers don't matter on a free society the numbers of dead pale in comparison to the millions of people the state would have put to death. History proves me right. Criminals kill and are protected. Civilians prevent more deaths. You have to live by rules. Our groundwork is the Constitution. Because people can't see the big picture doesn't give them the right perspective. If anything the inaction and delay on law enforcement should bolster the idea that you have to depend on your own resources to survive. Records should not be erased when a violent mental patient turns 18.
If they are going to use  nics to do background checks then every system needs to report every individual so the system can work. How many people pass a nics check when they should be rejected because some officials didn't do their jobs and reports were not sent in. They want background checks fix the one they have and lives will be saved.

10-15 million people murdered worldwide in the 20th century.  Compare that to 262 million disarmed citizens killed by their own government. An armed citizenry is a lot safer than a disarmed citizenry.

He is delusional and dismisses all these arguments.

Ironically he is totally aware of the massacres in Ukraine. Bucha, etc. People escorted into a basement and shot in the head with AK-47 "assault rifle" at point blank range. They are finding bodies for the last few weeks.
I played the card of, they really needed guns to defend themselves and should have never surrendered, because that's what you get when you are disarmed and surrender. There is no upside to that. He thinks it can't happen here and US can't be invaded. What about domestic tyranny?
Ukrainians too thought it could not happen there, these are modern cities that don't differ much from any US city, they have McDonalds and Starbucks and all the other western features yet now they are digging out bodies from basements.

Of course it _can_ happen here, with people like that gladly assisting.

He is not responding to any logical argument.

A lot to unpack there, but the absolute stupidity of this stuck out to me.

Gun owners want to be accountable for their own actions, not the actions of others.  And asking the vast majority of the innocent and law abiding to give up their rights because a very small minority of criminals can't comply with the most basic laws and standards of decency isn't right or just.  Ask this idiot if they think they should go to prison for the crimes of another.  Its essentially the same deal; punishing the innocent and taking away their rights and freedoms because of the bad acts of another.

I'd love to know where friend stands on Ukraine...

In my dealings with people who own guns they do not wish to see children killed by guns (or cars or drowning in the neighbor's pool or dying on a four-wheeler).  But they are also students of history and history is not kind to populations who place absolute faith in government to allow them to live in peace and freedom.  Did not turn out well for millions of Jews when the Nazis came to their doors.  Did not turn out well for those in countries who turned to communism (Soviet-Russia, China, Cambodia, etc.).  After watching the various government entities over the last few years I place even less faith in their concern for their citizens.

Furthermore, gun owners view gun control as the classic slippery slope - today you ask to remove "assault weapons" and "high capacity clips" - but does it really stop there?  Let's assume every "assault weapon" and "high capacity clip" is turned in tomorrow - what happens when another shooter uses a shotgun or someone decides to shoot people with their dad's deer rifle?  Well, we call for the banning of deadly multi-projectile trench brooms (or some other evil sounding made up term) and we definitely need to rid ourselves of dad's deer rifle because we all know it is really a sniper rifle in disguise.  Where does it stop?  Frankly, it doesn't until all guns are gone - and let's not delude ourselves - plenty of elected officials have even let this slip from time to time - search YouTube for a few minutes...

There are millions of ARs in circulation in the United States - MILLIONS.  If they were a real problem, you'd know it.  I saw an article from AP talking about 22 mass shootings with 374 deaths.  That's horrible...  I wish these would go away...  But they won't...  It's too late to put the genie back in the bottle.  And let's also face it - when the US Government bans items you can still get them if you're willing to break the law and pay enough.  There are hundreds of thousands of people crossing the US/Mexico border - you don't think a gun or two has come across with them?  You don't think someone would smuggle a gun across the border if there's a market in the US?

That's all I got for now...

Ask him which scenario would make kids safer, banning criminals from owning something they already have, or installing this in every school in the country?

Please watch this video and pass it around through email and social media

South Indian High School Security System cost $400,000 - includes:
marked blind spots in every classroom
intercoms in every classroom, that communicate with school admin and local police dispatch
many security cameras
bullet resistant classroom doors
locking classroom doors
(tear?) gas canisters in ceilings activated remotely by police force

Inside The Safest School In America | NBC Nightly News

There are reportedly 130,000 schools in America.
130,000 x $400,000 = $52,000,000,000,000 ($52 Billion)

We just sent $40 Billion to Ukraine
With economy of scale, there is no way to argue you can't get the cost of such systems down to an average closer $300-325k

Also, you understand that when the time comes this person will turn you in to the fed bois right?
This is the reality of the situation. Act and plan accordingly.

Do you usually exchange emails and have conversations with someone who wants to send you to jail?

A lot to unpack there, but the absolute stupidity of this stuck out to me.

Gun owners want to be accountable for their own actions, not the actions of others.  And asking the vast majority of the innocent and law abiding to give up their rights because a very small minority of criminals can't comply with the most basic laws and standards of decency isn't right or just.  Ask this idiot if they think they should go to prison for the crimes of another.  Its essentially the same deal; punishing the innocent and taking away their rights and freedoms because of the bad acts of another.

Maybe my post wasn't clear - ask this guy if he thinks he should go to jail because a criminal with absolutely no connection to him committed a rape.

"Fuck off dipshit" would be an appropriate response.

You should be distancing yourself from this brownshirt.

Ask him to forget he even knows you and has he thought about checking himself into a mental hospital because he has checked out of reality.
What is the government going to do if you don't obey or pay taxes? They will send people with guns to incarcerate or kill. They're too big to fail they think. They're bullies because of weaponized force. They are the delicate minority actually and we have been too kind and given our milk money for way to long.
3 o'clock is coming soon.

Stop arguing with crazy people; it will never make them sane, it can only make you crazy.

See, the thing is, he cheers at all these January 5th capital march people getting imprisoned without a trial, disappearing.
I think he would support concentration camps for the dissidents, re-education camps. And shut down Fox news, along with Tucker-the-traitor.  Called Ron/Rand Paul an idiot
