I would want to have them define "small" farm.  These might be 1-5 acres, and all of them combined might not have the output of a single medium sized farm in the US.

I don't think most people here understand how small the Netherlands is, how crowded it is, or how intensive their production is. There's nothing comparable like it in the US.

They aren't Sri Lanka, these issues should be quite easy to work out.

The really stupid part of this is the treaty trying to "preserve" anything in the Netherlands, which is all influenced by millennia of human activity already.

The goal should be improvement to better meet human needs. Top-down edicts are always problematic.

Which is bullshit.

Yes, a portion comes from ag.  But a whole bunch comes from runoff from residential lawn treatment and untreated sewage from outdated and poorly run civic treatment systems  - yes, untreated sewage is still dumped into waterways on a regular basis.

EPA sued the fuck out of Akron, and they’re spending upwards of a billion dollars to curb raw sewage dumping by.......a whopping 10%

You read that right , 10 , ten percent .

Climate change n shit.

As one of Europe’s most prominent farming nations, half of the Netherlands’ emissions come from agricultural activity.

This is a big deal and it’s coming to America.  Look into Biden’s 30 by 30 plan.

Also lots of people in this thread said the Dutch farmers would do nothing.  Have you guys not watched the news? The Dutch farmers have been protesting and shutting down cities for a year now.

I’m a American farmer and I can tell you this country will be fucked by 2030.  If you’re not producing your own food you should start now.

This is not about climate change but about nitrogen deposition in the surrounding area affecting protected nature reserves that we are treaty bound to protect. We have some sandy land areas with poor soil that are home to certain species that dissapear if the soil gets better and that were the problem lies.

I myself say 'fuck it commies' but it is the law and the farms could tecnically stay IF they would be able to not have stuff land next to them but this is often cost prohibative. NL is a microscopic country with one of the highest population densities in Yurp and thus the wold but we are a large produce exporter due to high intensity of our farms. The govenment was fine and pro farmers UNTIL eviromental groups started a test case to forece the gov to act and they won

Like I said I would just say fuck that treaty bullshit but people get all senitive about that.

Shithead that did the test case

I'm sure China, who isn't really subject to these sorts of climate actions, will step up and sell the world food.

I don't think China can feed themselves.

Once the WEF pushes food prices high enough, it'll be profitable enough for China to do a better job of it.  And heck... maybe that's why the WEF is so hell-bent on causing starvation, and why they continue to do it in ways that hurts the Western world, but not so much China.  Maybe they want depopulation, maybe they're in China's pocket books.  Maybe both, who knows.

It’s the loss of a livelihood.

It’s the loss of the land.

It’s the loss of a particular lifestyle that non-farmers will never understand.

It’s the loss of family history.  Of connection to that piece of property.  Memories.  Sweat.  Tears.  Blood.

I’ll die in a pile of brass before the government gets my land.
