My state police has every kind of car under the sun. From the pursuit HSV commodores, 325kW - which i think is like the Pontiac G8's you guys are talking about.

Pretty much stock Falcons:

They're locating them up in the light bar now.  You no longer have the ability to aim the light, but it provides a lot of general area illumination.

We have them too, its called 'takedown lights'.   I prefer the spotlight as its more direct on their rear view mirror.

The V8 is fast, real fast. Yeah, I drove one, and had it quickly up to 130 MPH before I backed off. Plenty of accelerator left to go. As far as I know, they are not available to the public. However, they are likely to be sought after on the secondary market. They are going to pull big bucks at Govt. auctions, just like the LS1 Caprice did back in the 90's. Fed. auctions should offer some really clean cars.

They were available to the public.   Pontiac G8 GT.   And they will hual ass. Over 150 allegedly   Looks like they did make the trunk bigger than the G8.  I don't have a pic of the trunk though.

I would think police departments would prefer AWD cars for their poor weather handling ability. Police cars have to be out in the rain, snow, and rough road conditions. Rear wheel drive isn't ideal for that. Maybe Subaru should develop a police car based on the Legacy GT?

http://icarsproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/2013-Subaru-legacy-GT2.jpg
Actually, the point is proven the other way around.

Simple, solid rear axle, rear wheel drive works well enough in the hands of competent drivers that any improvement in performance of awd is out weighed by the durability and lower maintenance requirements of traditional police cars.

I only comment on what I see out there.  I've used the spotlight on the airport response vehicle (former PD Ford Escape ) to evaluate a 737 and 757 collision to see if the planes were safe to move.

I'd be cool with riding the back bumper. I always wanted to since I was a little kid but it's a big no no today. Even for parades it's not allowed including the rear seats on the one open cab we still have. To be fair some FDs run some old eqiupment. My first dept still had a 44 Dodge Power Wagon for a brush truck when I started in 05. They sold it to another dept when they got the new one and it's still in service today.

Fire is completely volunteer where I live and in most of the surrounding counties.  There's very little new equipment among them.  It takes a lot of Bingo games and Fish Fries to afford a new engine, but we're also talking about vehicles that have less than 5k, some of them under 1k miles a year put on them.  The suggestion that we put cops in 60 year old vehicles or that it would somehow garner more respect from the public was completely asinine, as was the notion that the cops are initiating pursuits just for fun.  What the fuck are you supposed to do when they don't stop?  Tip your hat and tell them to have a nice day?

As crown vics slowly fall out of use, taxi services will move towards minivans and MPVs for easier wheelchair access. Most companies will probably copy NYC Taxi and use the Nissan NV200 and the Ford Transit Connect.

Side note: there was a dealership that found a loop hole in the contract about selling to LE's only. a few were sold to the public before the contract was revised.
