by sending Ragnar with no recourse I think the King meant the fly to be Ragnar.

The King wasn't sacraficing any of his men at the festival.

Ragnar is banging some hot women.

this.
The king sees Ragnar as competition down the road.
I think the king is hoping Jarl Borg eliminates Ragnar.

I haven't even thought of that angle. maybe so....

and Ragnar is a better man than I.... I would have knocked the bottom out of that. whining kid or not.

If he were a real father, he'd let the kid have sloppy seconds.

I like where they are going with this. They are setting up a lot for next Season. From what I've read about the history/myth surrounding Ragnar, they are following one of the more linear timelines even though it doesn't match when it actually all went down. The series is about 60-70 years early.

I could toss out a bunch of spoilers, but I will say this much... Ragnar supposedly does have more sons and Rollo becomes the first Duke of Normandy if they stick to the Wikipedia version.

I believe that the king just wants to see Jarl Borg and Jarl Ragnar beat the hell out of each other since they are both strong minded, independent, and competent leaders who pose a danger to his kingship.

I think the spider represented the king and the web he wove, and the fly represents both of the Jarls he sees as his rivals.

When they are weakened, he will deal with bothof them , or the survior, at a time of his own choosing.

Agreed; I liked the character Jarl Borg.  The king is a prick for stealing lands that aren't his from his own people.

I thought it was a good episode, but not a season finale.  Floki would destroy Rollo, he goes into battle wielding duel daggers....he is a badass.  I wish Leif was left on the show alittle longer, he was great.

Was she just screwing with his head or was there enough time on that trip for her to really think she is pregnant with his kid?

Yeah I was kind of curious how she'd know she was pregnant after a couple days in the woods.  And she got railed more than once.  The last scene.

I thought weeks passed? This show doesn't do a good job of letting you know when they jump forward.

I don't think that trip was a hop skip and a jump away.

Well they went on the trip, and then while they were there, the Jarl invites them to a few-days journey to see the tree.  That's where all the magic happened, unless the new chick followed them back to the Jarl's place.

^^^ Good point.

I think they were at least there for a week or two.

Also.... what was with the blood on his hand? It was like a homing missle that lead him straight to her.

WEIRD.

I laughed when she said "I'm carrying your son". I thought, yeah right crazy chick, she knows that after two days! It's a trap!

I took that as he was "crossing the Rubicon" so to speak i.e. committing to shack up with the new squeeze.  Although that was a twist as I thought he was on his way to kill the other Jarl.

Yeah... I did think he was using his blood to track down his brother.

Kick in the door and slit the Jarl's throat.

Turned out he was after a different slit.

Floki is hands-down my favorite character on the show. I love his disposition. He's cunning, crazy, and pretty handy with hatchets.

Ok, here's something to ponder:

Ragnar's wife is warned that he is under the temptation of magic while in Sweden. The girl he meets is all mystical and enchanting.

What I'm wondering is: is she the show's depiction of Hel, Loki's daughter? In mythology, she is the ruler of the underworld/afterlife, and is horribly disfigured. While the last part isn't quite true for the show, it makes me wonder. She also showed up at their camp with a large dog...I wonder if that wasn't a tip of the hat to Fenrir, the giant wolf and Loki's other child.

I thought she used the dog as her "came here not alone...but also not in company" part of Ragnar's request.

Bad ass show, can't wait for next season. The brother twist is getting very interesting. The only thing I wish they did different was keep Gabrielle Byrne's character a little longer. He's a terrific actor.
