I'm at the point now that we need to gut the FBI and DOJ in order to make it run more efficiently and HONESTLY.

I'm not. The FBI was created because local and state law enforcement was unable to deal with the mobility across political boundaries in the early 20th century. if anything, we are a more mobile society now than we were back then.
Who would pick up the mission of the FBI if we were to gut its ability to do its job?

With the possible exception of the air traffic control system,   I think we can do without any .gov agency or system that is not one of the Enumerated Powers.

If it's not on the list,  let's try just not having it for a trial period of a year or two.

If the world does not implode, then just leave it like that.

Fund the military, keep the gears of commerce turning,  let the lest fall to the floor and rot in place.

Show me a list of .gov agencies and I'll show you a list that could have 90 percent of its line items erased without damage to the country.

There are very serious legal ramifications if private sector employers don’t pay their employees on time. Something about all workers must be paid at least biweekly unless they are high wage salary type if I recall correctly. I guess the .gov is exempt from this?

My statement was "how many".  That does not imply "all".  Our federal government is
chocked full of dead weight.  It takes an act of congress to fire someone, which in turn
creates a lackadaisical attitude that would not get tolerated in the private sector.  The military
or at least the old military had a completely different approach.  Those men and women are
disciplined.  I have done a lot and I mean a lot of hiring over the years.  Veterans always  went

Tell us how much energy the Dept of energy has produced since its inception.
The department of education has destroyed our schools and is nothing more than a vehicle for indoctrination.
We have 71 armed agencies in this federal government.

Plenty of stuff that can be gutted and plenty of stuff that can be downsized.
The Department of Energy doesn't PRODUCE energy; does that make its job unimportant.
The fact that there are 71 agencies who arm a portion of their employees is an unimportant statistic
Gutted, no. Run more efficiently, yes.
I'm at the point now that we need to gut the FBI and DOJ in order to make it run more efficiently and HONESTLY.
DOE does all that, you know, Nuke stuff.

The easiest way to investigate political perversion would be to find out what related products were of what file names.
Use tools to see every user that handled those files names.
Start from there. That would identify the majority of hacks.

It would also be worthwhile to interview agents who have worked on political corruption squads over the past 10 years and see what cases were pulled or terminated.

Retired after 30 years civil service.......here's the skinny.

It's not what you know, but who you know or who you blow. DC is the mecca for peter-puffers and catchers.

Here's my vitae: first 4 years USDA, quit when the only female on the crew and least productive was promoted over me.
Fast forward 6 years (worked in private sector, moved a lot) hired at Pentagon, US Army - 4 years. I have never encountered a bigger bunch of clueless fucks in my life, and yes, they have COLs serving coffee to Generals. I was screaming to get out.

After about 172 SF 171s (.gov employment application back then - they now take - resumes! through USAjobs.gov) I was accepted by an AF SMU. When I got there and they opened the Pandoras box, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I loved that job, I was doing real world stuff.
Until my supervisor screwed me out of my job to create a civil service position for himself  - irony is, he wasn't hired, partly because of what he did and because he used me to go from MSGT to CMSGT in the 4 years he was there. I made him look good because my skill set was very much in demand, besides he was only good at ass-kissing and BSing - nothing else.

At that point I was a "priority placement 1" which meant that the first job I was qualified for was mine. One day before I was to be furloughed I was "hired" by the Army again, just down the road. They had no choice, but to take me. I was overqualified for the job and bored shitless. They acted like they were doing me a big favor, until I proved I could run circles around them, blindfolded, backwards and blitzed! Wrong - I should have lobotomized myself and I would have been perceived as less of a threat! I got promoted - once - and only because higher put pressure on my boss (he did not like that and relegated me to the basement office - by myself, six months with nothing to do - jackass didn't realize he had given me a mini-vacation)
They were operating 50 years behind the times and refused to change. 13 years later - I retired - and thankfully not having choked the living shit out of some bastards and bitches who desperately deserved it.

NOTE:
If you retire from active duty after 20 years (or so) on a Friday, you can be rehired to your civilian converted position the following Monday.
If you are a "veteran" with at least 2 years active duty, you have preference over a civilian with superior qualifications.
Spouse Preference - on active duty and PCS, your wife can be hired into a civil service position with just a pulse and breathing.
If you have a "race" or "handicapped" profile, you go to the front of the line for hiring - qualified or not - reasonable accommodations will be made for you - even if someone else is demoted.
It is almost impossible to be fired from a civil service position, unless there is proof you threatened someone or physically abused them.
When I first started, I figured only 1/4 civil service employees actually did any work. By the time I retired I estimated about 1/8.

.....and more shit than I care to remember - I try not too - and thankful I have forgotten a lot of shit. (I wake up some days having dreamed of past BS)

In the time I was in, I have witnessed more incompetent and worthless POS hired in civil service (some of which I HAD TO TRAIN) as well as in the military.

I EARNED my piddly-shit pension! I hope I made a difference, and passed on my knowledge to some deserving folks willing to learn.

And you wonder why you get the government you deserve? I hope the .gov doesn't reopen again - best thing that could happen to this country.

And wonder of wonders! you will realize we do NOT need a "central planning" .gov and everything can be done at your home-town level.
The other bonus is that the incompetents in your local AO will wither-away without .gov support, because they are not able to do jack-shit in the first place.

To those of you who are butt-hurt because of what I wrote - no apologies - next time I won't use any lubricant.

There's a way to add enumerated powers to the Constitution and it isn't just through saying the magic words "interstate commerce".  I fully believe the FAA and FCC should exist for example.  I just think amendments are needed to legitimize their existence.

Well as a federal firefighter I'm still at work today, and will continue to be called to work and not get paid until they reopen. Meanwhile the USPS, food stamps, STA, health inspectors, congress, social security, and most of the EPA will continue to be paid.

If they want to shut down the gov, then they need to fuck everyone, not just "Essential" employees

No one but the Fed Marshall's service, Border Patrol, and the Capitol police should be armed. if any other agency thinks they need an armed raid that should be through the warrant process by the Marshall's service.

The constitution only provides for a "Navy".

No Army, no Air Force (but there was no TV/radio when 1st amendment was written either....so perhaps a moot point).

I've always been a supporter of only a Navy (incorporate the Air Force) and the Marine Corp subset (I don't think the Corp would ever accept/incorporate the Army - you'd have to eliminate about 90% first)

If we are still shut down next week, I will have to decide between going on my vacation while not getting of my earned and approved paid leave (it would be unpaid furlough). Or throwing away all the money I have spent on my vacation, and going to work for a pay check which I don't know when it will come.

Unless for some reason it's simply not viable financially, I'd take your vacation unpaid and just try to enjoy it.

total bullshit that you are in this situation though. No good reason they couldn't just add your paid leave to the money you'll get eventually when things start back up.

A neighbor is a trainer in a fed agency and he as well as the other trainers are furloughed, all the trainees have to go home tomorrow after midnight.

The .gov (taxpayer) will pay them to fly home and when the .gov is "game-on" again they will pay to fly them back.

I agree.  If the Governement shuts down, it must be a COMPLETE shutdown.  Everyone and everything that collects a pay check or is funded by the Federal Government.  No air traffic controllers, not meat inspectors, no welfare, no food stamps, nothing.

Then we'll see the two political parties come to an argreement in record time!

Unless for some reason it's simply not viable financially, I'd take your vacation unpaid and just try to enjoy it.

total bullshit that you are in this situation though. No good reason they couldn't just add your paid leave to the money you'll get eventually when things start back up.

Probably what I will do. Just need to make sure I don't get hurt on my vacation

1 day of this, and we wouldn't have any more shutdowns. Or we would have a bunch, because a shut down would actually harm a lot more people. And it would be a giant political weapon. It's a coin flip which way it would go.

Don't like landing on a carrier?
Are you opposed to this concept and why?

As far as the two year appropriation, well, you know....incrementalism. On its basis not that bad of a concept, but how about actual intent of the 2nd amendment to provide for a well regulated militia. IMO that takes care of the "need" of a military nicely.....besides, who's going to attack us? Mexico? Canada? Haiti?

Which brings me to my next point. How many bases goes the US have overseas? How many bases do Russia and China have? (do your own research)
Could over $520 billion for the DoD be better spent?

And incidentally......to add fuel to the fire.....the US has not been a superpower for quite some time now. You can thank the previous two administrations for selling us down the river and most our technology to those who now surpass us. Is this all worth even losing one more soldier?......for what?
And please don't tell me it's to protect our freedom. (Reference: "War is a Racket" by Retired USMC MG Smedley Butler 2x CMH)

Comments are not only encouraged......but will be graded!

If we are still shut down next week, I will have to decide between going on my vacation while not getting of my earned and approved paid leave (it would be unpaid furlough). Or throwing away all the money I have spent on my vacation, and going to work for a pay check which I don't know when it will come.

Oh boo hoo!
You were never given any guarantees working for the fed. I went through this several times in my career. No plan B? No contingencies? No savings? no TSP?
You expect .gov to owe you a job and a paycheck and a living? Talk to the hand. You don't get paid - you don't work - otherwise it's known as - slavery.
(Per OPM and EEO regs you cannot be forced to work without pay or threatened with losing your job, unless you are considered essential personnel - check it out) Your option at that point is to take LWOP or regular leave earned. You don't get back-pay? it's still LWOP....make the best of it.

And some guys never even came back home to their families.

Think it's bad now?

At least you'll get back pay. I may not even have my monthly pension deposit for next month.

But the congress critters will still get paid, furlough or not. (I think the staffers are considered essential personnel....so they have to show up, paid or not)

Insurance will cover you on a furlough status, unless you don't have insurance?
How long have you been civil service? You should know all this shit already.

And most importantly, no one to guard all of the areas and amenities that they want to keep the people from accessing and enjoying.

All these shutdown threads have me laughing

Meanwhile the gov employees will be back to work soon and laughing at everyone when they're retiring before 50 with full pension

Why don't you explain to us how that works?  I'd really like to know.

Why do I think an answer will not be forthcoming?

Bravo!

Does this shut down mean that only “essential services” are funded?

Good, isn’t that the way it should be?  Let’s make it permanent.
