You don't mean the old 10.4mm antiques? They were re-lined to 6.5mm?

If so - very easy but please don't do that.

If you mean the interwar or WWII rifles - again very easy to hack to bits. I don't particularly care what happens to one either so go right ahead.

Just to be clear, fellas.  Chopping up a cheap tube bolt action might be less expensive.  Mosins are going for stupid money these days.

Still cheaper to pay the stamp than reweld 2 receivers.

So..... I can understand why someone would do that today, a nod to a neat piece of history, but I am clueless as to why a partisan would want a useless firearm. Was it just an attempt to make a readily available firearm concealable? Even then, a shortened stock would make this actually usable and not add much bulk.

Lack of handguns. Once the armories were emptied of nagant revolvers you stopped seeing them unless you were real remote.

I used to know a fella that traveled all over Russia, there's still villages far north that have old obrez for hunting.

As a partisan you aren't going to be getting into doing much long range shooting (or much shooting at all).  Concealability is important, and it works just fine at close range.  Is it an idea weapon? Of course not but it's all they had so they used it.

Oh come on. The Martini in question is missing all furniture. No bluing remains. No rifling remains. The barrel is dented in multiple places. The trigger and trigger guard - right along with the action lever - have been snapped off. Currently my plans include using it as a paperweight. An ugly SBR oddity would be a major step up in the world!

It just seems like a shortened stock would gain a ton of function, while losing very little of the desired qualities.

I also recall a rumor that the secret police would look in places that could hide a Mosin. They can't thoroughly search every house but they could give each house a quick once over.

So the idea was to get it real small to hide in your house, so it couldn't be found.

You could cut two separate receivers in half and weld the opposite ends back together and make a handgun...

I've got a cut down M91 Westinghouse I've been thinking of Obrez'in' for years.

What's up with the bar passing through the front stock screw lug and touching the barrel? I haven't seen that before.

I understand one of the issues w/ chopping the bbl so short, other than singeing your eyebrows, is the bullet is so slow it doesn't spin fast enough to stabilize.  If you're going to the trouble to put sights or an optic on it, may want to look into a custom faster bbl twist 1st.
