So..... I can understand why someone would do that today, a nod to a neat piece of history, but I am clueless as to why a partisan would want a useless firearm. Was it just an attempt to make a readily available firearm concealable? Even then, a shortened stock would make this actually usable and not add much bulk.
It wasn't partisans. It was criminals.

LOL. These were done in order to kill literal Communist gun confiscators. No pity from me.

You can recrown it with a carriage bolt, a drill, and some kind of abrasive if you're feeling fancy.

I believe it. My little SBR can hit what I aim it at with surplus. It's no 1MOA but it's no worse than other decent Mosin examples with longer barrels.

I promise - you can do it.

It takes work but you can farm out the one thing you can't do at home with homeowner level tools: the barrel. It has to be shortened (obviously) and have some new registers turned for the FSB/gas block and a slot for the handguards. Everything else - even the shortened piston - is doable with very little tooling.

You'll need a cheapo 10T press to replace the barrel/pin once it's all set.

But you can do it.

ETA: Obviously any little welder will do it for the shortened/welded tube as well. Even a $70 Harbor Freight FCAW.

I don't think there were ever any robberies in the USSR throughout its history, by definition.  The proletariat was merely seizing the means of production, and therefore, there was no robbery, merely temporary disagreements over the allocation of resources among the proletariat.

The proper way to cut Obrez is to use a hacksaw to make a circular cut, but not all the way down. Then dip the barrel in water and fire. It will form nice crown. This process was described in one of the musiums in Russia that I visited.
